Bad Pump? Loud noise when revving and turning wheel

Every time I rev my car or/and turning the wheel I hear a whining noise.

How easy it is to change the power steering pump?

Or if it’s not that what do you think it might be?

I thought it was an electric rack, no belt driven pump or fluid to check. revving the engine wouldn't make the steering whine

check your drive belt, the amps the rack uses will strain the alternator belt and make it squeal as well as revving the engine

Electric power steering wasn't initiated in use until the ZL1. My 2012 still has hydralic power steering.

Mechanic told me it was the rack and pinion. So I have to replace it. But his trying to charge me $850 for parts and labor.

The alignment is necessary? Shouldn’t the alignment be included?

Where are you in Texas? If near DFW, I can recommend an honest shop.

$850 does not sound expensive for a rack replacement. Yes an assignment is necessary of course you are going to pay for it why would they work for free? I mean they can add the alignment price into the quote if you'd like to feel like you are getting it for free, but most shops have a set menu price for an alignment that's why it's separated in the quote.

DO you have a glazed power steering belt first things first...maybe some spray for belt squeal could help, first things first..or lightly sanding the sides of a v belt works also, then replace the belt, even getting a suction bulb and replacing the fluid in the reservoir...… Start with first things first....Good Luck! I have not had one of the v-6 only a couple v-8s but belts get old....

Mechanic changed the rack and pinion but it’s still losing power steering fluid and that noise is still there. It goes away when I press on my brakes.
