Be sure to swap the brake fluid with high-temp fluid if you plan to run the car hard. That's probably the single most important track prep procedure (for most tracks anyway). If you plan to run in a novice group, you can probably make do with the DOT 3, but I recommend going ahead with the swap.

I use Castrol SRF.

A one liter bottle should be plenty if you're careful. A lot of guys like the Motul 600 fluid as well.

Loving the car and the color. Can't wait for your track report.

Oh yes, totally agree! I used SRF in my gen 5 and have a liter ready to go into the new car. I like the motul 600 and ATE fluid as well, but SRF is the only fluid I don't boil at Sebring or COTA. Good stuff!

My question is on the diff fluid. Page 199 of the owners manual says to change it after the first track event, but to watch for high fluid temps. It then says to swap it after the first track event. The High perf supplement says nothing. I had assumed it should be swapped before the first track event? Am I missing something?

As for the rest:

Oil will be swapped to 15w-50 (page 15 high perf driving supplement).
Alignment will be to the factory recommendation.
I will remove the side air deflectors and the water tray.

Thanks!

Doug
The performance supplement said Mobil 1 15W50 was the oil of last resort.

The manual for ZL1 1LE specificaly states to change the oil to Mobile 1 15W50, and change it every 4 hours of track time.
It is the only oil listed for use while tracking this car.

regular ZL1 has different requirements.

I guess this would be another instance where it would be nice to have a ZL1 1LE sub forum...

The engine, emissions system, etc. is identical on the ZL1 and ZL1-1LE. It makes no sense that the oil recommendation would be different. I believe that the GM engineers assume the ZL11LEs are going to be pushed harder by the people driving them and that's the reason behind the difference in oil recommendation.

Why "must be changed back to the engine oil listed in...the owner's manual"? I mean, I'll do as it says, but just curious as to the science behind it.

I'm not sure of the exact science, but Mobil states that the higher levels of zinc and phosphorus in the racing oils aren't great for emissions systems.

I assume this is GM's reasoning as well.

Anyone plan to run their 1LE out at VIR? I hope to have it out there in October if I have mine by then!! Not sure I'll have 1500 miles on it by then? Did everyone follow the break in to the T? I had a 991.1 GT3 and Porsche recommended break in of 2000 miles which was next to impossible to follow given how little I was driving it. Needless to say it was at the track at 1500 miles LOL

I have 800 miles on mine now.
First 400 I kept it under 4K rpm.
Then next 400 I kept it under 5500 rpm
I will have about 1000 to 1200 by the time I take it to Sebring.
I am not too good about following instructions to the letter.

That seemed strange to me as well.

The way I look at this is yeah, the higher zinc and phosphorus (ZDDP) eventually is hard on the cat converters. The EPA requires the emission systems to go to 100,000 miles and elevated ZDDP reduces the cat efficiency to 100,000. But realistically, how many of us will have these cars at 100,000 miles? Use the good stuff and don't sweat it.
