Just did mine, took about 20 minutes, had a couple tiny oil puddles. Wiped them out and unscrewed the sound deadener . Bolted it back on.

And how much of an impact on the sound did it have?

This. I did mine today as well. 20 minutes to the tee lol. Reused the gasket (4000 miles) wiped down the gasket surfaces and took it for a pull. Could not give a guess on a decibel count but was louder at WOT for sure. Best free mod in a while lol.

Also did the mod for the by pass as well but mine was really spot on.

I’m confused, the GM torque spec paper clearly says the gasket is not reasonable. So we’re ignoring that and just putting it on.

Yea , or do it correctly and change the gasket like any real mechanic would. You are the exact reason and a good example of why I don’t buy used , you never know what stupid people are going to do to a beautiful $60,0000 car. Idiots cheap out on the mods and skip the $20 very important gasket. It’s not good enough to skip buying the expensive lid , you found a shortcut using the stock lid and then wanted to cheat yourself on that too.

They also say to replace cam nuts after each alignment but never do it... Its a case of GM covering there ass. If somthing fails they can say well we said....
Sure if you have 50k on it replace the gasket for good measure. Mine has 700 miles, and i don't see many over the 30k mark.

If your hair stands up thinking about reusing a gasket replace it. Its not that big of a deal. But most with expeariance can inspect a gasket to insure it will seal correctly and move on.

Lighten up Francis, it's a silicone rubber gasket. It's not a multilayer and it's not subject to that much pressure. If it were the gasket would be much more substantial to begin with.
