It's only 2 weeks, not going to make a big dent in a 6 month supply. They're going to have to cut production further if they want to avoid the 20% off deals again.

Extra inventory gives greater chance of a 20% off offer

While huge deals are great for buyers up front, they can result in lower residuals. Also, if they end up doing any fleet dump to clear old inventory, this can have the same effect.

Dad forwarded me the link from a CNN article today. Sounds like GM is moving past a shift cut at the Camaro/ATS/CTS plant to a full on shut down until those inventory levels drop back down.

Could mean some deals could be had, but also could mean the dealers may not budge on the more wanted models like the ZL1 and 1LE models.
They still don't get that the SS pricing are to high. If they kept pricing close to the 5th gen pricing they would be selling well.

This is a smart move. If one is producing a certain amount of product, and can only sell a percentage of it, it is wise to cut back. They should cease complete production for a month or so, then cut back production for another subsequent 2-3 months.
The inventory will be just a bit ahead of demand at that point.
It is bad news for ZL1 and 1LE orders though.

Media,Democrats, and Liberals control gas prices! Seems as though they were doing USA good.

There will always be a market for this car. Ramp it when needed, back it down when needed. Pretty much what GM is doing. Yes, it does affect people's lives when these plants slow down, but unfortunately it's the nature of the beast.

I would have loved to take one of those 6th Gen 1SS off the dealers hands but when I went looking, numerous dealers weren't budging on price, so I'm out of the search now ....... at least those that are going to buy have a ton of inventory to pick from ....

I think that is only part of the equation. With all the heavy discounting and incentives now they are priced like a 5th gen, even cheaper in some cases and they still only sell 4-5k or so per month vs the 10k per month back at the height of the 5th gen days.

The bulk market is just not hot for sports cars right now. However, Honda sells like 30k Civics per month.

Read another article that said that Camaro plant was only losing a shift, which was previously announced, and not getting any additional idle time beyond the holidays. My car is scheduled for production the week of 1/2/17, so I'll know soon enough.
