Pay off the liquid cash loan by June, yes, but the government will still have a 50% stock share in ownership untill GM can sell enough stock to pay off the shares the govt. owns. Have you forgotten that little double whammy, what the govt. didn't loan GM in liquid cash they took over in shares of the company? That second part of the plan is how the government task force was able to appoint Whittacre as CEO. Not the loan, the ownership.

Heck, any half decent company could pay that loan off.

I think people missread and missinterpreted what I initially said as a slam against GM. Nothing could be further from the truth, and if you did, go back and re-read what I said (I know you still have it in your PM even though you deleted it from the thread).

My point is for everyone complaining that GM (and Ford, and Chrysler, and BMW and Mercedes for that matter, unless they have the clientelle willing to pay the fees for the fines passed on from not meeting the 35 mpg CAFE standard) will soon have to do away with the V8 engine in a passenger car, they need to look at where the directive comes from.

It certainly does NOT come from GM, nor does it come from most of the people on this forum.

Like i said 3500lbs with a turbo V-6 would be such a vast improvent over the current '10 SS, especially in ET's!!

I think we have all either forgetten about the buick v-6's of the 80's. Also, maybe people never REALLY new about them to begin with or forgetten how enjoyable they are to drive because of the HUGE torque produced that starts at a very low RPM!!

while a turbo v6 isnt a bad idea... it just isnt the same.

and the 300lb loss might not be to hard to accomplish if they end up swapping platforms. only time will tell.

But here's the reality here guys. We have all sat by idly while the big global warming drum has been pounding for years. CAFE standards are government standards, these are things that GM has to follow. It's not a choice for GM. So I dont understand all the anger expressed at GM's "direction" that they're heading.

If you love your V8 powered muscle cars, buy a 5th gen and keep it forever, because the more strict the world gets on vehicle emissions, the faster the death certificate for the V8 will be handed out.

Im sure there will be v8 cars available in the eco-friendly future for the insanely rich though!
What really needs to be done with all the emotion and energy being wasted on threads complaining about the possibility of V8s disappearing, is using that time, emotion, and energy and direct it at our legislators to repeal some of these absurd (and IMHO un-constitutional) laws such as CAFE standards, etc. If you are upset you need to let your lawmakers know, they work for you and should be doing what their constituents want, not whatever they feel like passing into law. Call, write, email them today and let your voice be heard!

Of course it will be a supercharged corvette with just as much power if not more as it does now, but again, it won't be a corvette without the 8-cylinder. As of now they are offering the 8 as an option with the 6 coming standard.
thats sort of like saying a vette isn't a vette without pop up headlights.
they did once come with a 6 ya know....

Jeez... I tried so hard to hold off posting 'cause I was sure somebody was going to come up with the answer - but my eyes glazed over after page 7.

So, first let me say "Spoiler Alert!"

If you don't want to know the answer and you want to continue to read this thread in all it's glory... Just skip this post.

Otherwise:

The 2015 (intro mid-year 2014) Camaro SS will have a 7 cylinder, direct injection, bi-amplified turbo/supercharger, 6 valve per cylinder (GM was going with 5, but Audi and Yamaha had that covered) engine, that runs off of leftover pound puppies and kittens. To extend your driving range, there will be an optional attachment for infeed of miscellaneous roadkill less than 3 kg, this will be mandatory in W.VA to encourage people to use roadkill for fuel instead of food. At first animal rights groups will stage protests, but after a new development results in an increase of 5 miles per kitten (13 miles per puppy), public resistance will be overcome and the technology will prove to be successful... Besides saving $3.7MM per year in animal control cost.

Obviously living in CA has totally removed your desire to change our current oppressive government/laws and made you unwilling to express your dissatisfaction, fortunately there is a rising number of people so fed up with the situation that a number of elections will have very different outcomes as people start moving to take their country back. If people keep ignoring the unwanted laws and accepting the status quo, then we will indeed eventually lose V8s as well as many parts of our lifestyle that we take for granted today.

Well good for you Captain America...don't mistake my sarcasm for being disconnected. Not only do I vote but I am very involved in my community and political process. The only thing the elections will accomplish is putting new faces to be bought and corrupted. Good luck though...
