just relax. unless it was caused by something you did, or vandalism; then your warranty will cover it. and on the outside chance it was vandalism, then your insurance would cover it.

You don't care if the car is vandalized?

Huh?

In any event, let us know what happens and what caused this.

I would be the third person to say I would sleep in my car. Sorry for the troubles. Nothing is more frustrating then not knowing what happened. Been there.

Yep. Pretty much every car I've owned has eventually been vandalized. You learn to spend money on good insurance and to not take it personally if it happens.

Roadside assistance just came and got my keys, they are taking it to the dealership now (provided it's still there).

That probably could have been an easy fix, no? Is this a common problem with our cars?

I feel your pain. I had a similar situation happen in a brand new 2005 Mustang. It was about midnight when the car died on the highway about three hours from home. I was given a little warning when the electronics cut out and was able to pull the car over before it completely died. My younger sister was sleeping in the passenger seat and woke up when I pulled over and asked if we were at Taco Bell lol (we had talked about stopping before she fell asleep).

After a long, awkward ride home in the tow truck, we left the car at the dealer. Turned out to be the alternator.

Wow how'd you ever think to call roadside assistance?

That's a great idea on your part!

Why wouldn't the dealership be there? Where are they going to take it if the dealership is gone?

Seemed to me the alternator would have slowly gone out, not an abrupt stop where the wheel and tires lock up immediately. I mean, I could have slammed into a car, a tree, or a person. That's effed up. Never heard of an alternator doing that.

Is it possible someone hacked my onstar account (I don't have a subscription but I'm sure it's still active from when I bought the car, if I ever choose to reinstate it). They could have reported the car stolen and this was the result? I don't know.

Dealership called and the car just arrived. They said they are busy and can't even look at it until next week. Ugh.
