The Corvette didn't get a LS2 engine until the C6 came out, 2005 model year. But yea it's been awhile!

I feel like GM learned their lesson on the weight difference between the current Muffstain and Camaro. We know ford is stepping up handling on the new Stain, so I think that the new Camaro will be lighter indeed. I hope, really hope, that it's lighter than the Muffstain. But as Fbodfather has pointed out, Muffstain is ford's Camaro and Corvette, so they can go wide open on it.

Either way, from a performance stand point, I think the 6th gen Camaro is going to be completely bada$$.

I personally like the new mustang very much, more so from a styling standpoint than anything else. I'm sure the performance will be killer, but not better than the next gen Camaro. The new LT series motors are outstanding (except for DI which I HATE), and I don't feel Ford's improved Roadrunner-based 5.0 can outperform an LT1 Camaro SS or hi-po LT4 based model. And, as far as chassis are concerned, both will sport vastly improved platforms.

With that said, however, I'm truly concerned with the styling design direction the next gen Camaro may take. I love the 5thgen (pre-2014 only) because it was basically a modern interpretation of the 1st gen. I just don't feel the new design can be as big of a home run as the 5thgen, imo.

I don't see it as GM learning their lesson. GM had no choice but to use the chasis the Camaro is on as it was the only chasis available for the Camaro at the time. It was either go with a heavy Camaro or no Camaro at all. They knew going into it that weight was an issue and dealt with as best as they could. Now both Mustang and Camaro will be on level playing fields...the mustang with IRS and the Camaro with less weight.

As for looks, the only thing I don't like about the current Mustang is the rear. Now they took everything I hated about the rear and exaggerated it, so I do not like the rear even more now. Maybe it will look better in person

I think GM should build Camaro using same material used in vette. carbon fiber and aluminum frame. lighten the load and apply the best engine. if the Ford comment about horsepower is true, we're in trouble. in the long term everyone will have less power..

If Camaros were still produced in 2005, pretty sure it would have been powered by the LS2. There was no more LS1/6 in anything in 05; they swapped a LS2 in all hp/performance application CTS-V/Trailblazer SS/ Vette/SSR/etc. Other engines were truck specific, made of iron.

The Camaro will always be too heavy to outperform the Vette with the same power output.

If GM ever decide to offer 2 V8 engines in the next Camaro, they rather sell the 5.3l version at a really really, really low price, because its going to be embarrassment for the name of the car. I dont see how they could lower the price that much cause they would need to use the same powertrain as the LT1 if they want this setup to be reliable.
