2019 refreshed Tail Lights

I just saw a YouTube comparison for small cars for 1971 put on by Mopar. It was between; the Duster, the Vega & the Pinto.

Now I see where the tail light inspiration came from.. a 1971 Chevy Vega!

The Vega's tail lights protruded and were the same shape as the 2019 refresh.

Full disclosure, I had a 73 Duster hand me down as 1st car. That's how I stumbled across the video.

The regular Vega had all tail lights red, the pic above is a suedo GT. The only valuable Vega is the Cosgrove Vega.

Maybe. They might have taken some inspiration from the 1968 Camaro tail lights.

Could be, but 2019's stick out, not recessed like early 5th Gens or the pic above.

i always thought they took inspiration from the 71-72 tails for the 2019.

Yeah for the 5th Gen, although more modern.

Chevy tried to reinterpret the success of 5th Gen 4 lights, even scooping the top of bumper but missed what was special, recessed and cantered for zero sun damage.
They should of done a straight copy of 2nd gen, round & recessed, especially since Corvette went so far away from round in last Gen.

Give it 4 to 5 years, the 'goggles' will yellow with sun damage.

I don't think the Vega had anything to do with it. I think it was more going back to the GEN2 -GEN5 and they had to work with the shape and space of the trunk and bumper openings of the current design.

I think you are on to something there , the 19s do look like a updated version.

I think you mean Cosworth and I would have to believe a Yenko Stinger Vega would be more valuable. I love those old Baby Split Bumber drag Vegas .

I disagree with the bolded bit. A straight copy would never look good. The design language would be inconsistent and circular tail lights are out of style. I think the issue with the refresh is that GM cut corners by making the quarter panels and trunk lid the same, and so the new lights got shoehorned into a shape they weren't initially designed for.

One of the biggest reasons I opted for the 19. I love the square look of the taillights.

I have a 2016 and I love the 19 tail lights. The lights and the new bumper that removes the lines under the lights instantly caught my attention when it was revealed. While others were declaring their disgust I embraced it really fast and wish my 2016 had those lights. Certainly a mod I might do. The front I like on black, grey, or with the body color center bar.
