Unhappy Transmission Alignment

Hello,
I have searched the forums and the web for the answer to the ultimate question.
How do you perform Bellhousing Runout Alignment on a TR6060 ZL1 transmission when the bellhousing is part of the transmission. I am not going to take my TR6060 apart, I am installing a Dart SHP block soon.
Anyone have any ideas or experiance with this?

I'll try to remember to look in the Service Manual tonite and see if there's any mention.

Hey Vic,

Well the manual only shows the trans and clutch housing assembled using dowel pins and bolts. There wasn't an alignment procedure that I saw.

The transmission just bolts up. But your slave cylinder needs to be a certain distance from the clutch fingers. You measure from the back of the engine to the fingers on the clutch and then take another measurement from the slave fully compressed to the edge of the bell housing and subtract the two. Should be within your clutch tolerances.

If I have to I will make a alignment plate for my transmission from 1/4" aluminum. Clamp the guide in place, then center the large hole to the transmission output shaft. Mark and drill the 4 mount holes over sized. Remount to transmission guide using bolts and nuts, recenter the large hole to the output shaft. Tighten bolts and drill for the alignment pins using the trans. pin holes as guides.

Something like the Holley T56 guide, using the guide as the bell housing...
https://www.holley.com/products/driv...s/parts/RM-130

I might need to use a couple of washers as standoffs at the bolt locations when putting the guide on the engine, but it is doable...

ORDERED THE ALUMINUM PLATE...

Reply from Bowler Performance Transmissions / Phantom-Products, about using the T56 front cover on the TR-6060 MG9.

"Thank you for reaching out to us with your question about your TR6060. The conversion to the T56 Magnum style front cover would be possible. You will however need to reshim the main shaft and countershaft to ensure that the endplay on both is correct when you convert it. That will allow you to run the Quicktime bellhousing. You will also need to change your clutch to an aftermarket style clutch that has a shorter stack up height. The factory style twin disc clutch on the ZL1 is too tall to fit under the Quicktime bellhousing which is shorter than the one piece bellhousing that you are taking off to do the conversion."

In answer to, do you have a tool to align the TR-6060 MG9 trans., I got this back from BROWELL BELLHOUSING INC.

"You will have to take bell off trans. Then I need to know what opening we are working with from there."

So there you go...

I ordered the 1/4" aluminum plate and I will make my own tool for aligning the trans. the biggest issue I face is putting a presision 5 to 6" hole in it. I may just take it to my machine shop...

I've been thinking......and with the members of this forum in mind I think it'll make better reading if u just skip the alignment tool + guide and just wing it with a dial indicator!
and add some video with audio.....it might just make u the next tiktok star!

I have heard of people using offset dowels to do an adjustment, but don't know any details.
