Exhaust actuator “broken”

So I’ve been hearing this metal on metal sound coming from my exhaust and the dealership wants $2700 to fix it! Does any one know a cheaper way of fixing this issue or has this happen to anyone?

I have a funny feeling this is exactly my problem as well. My NPP has sounded funny a little while after getting all my mods and tune done.

I think the 5th gens had an issue with either a weld breaking or a solenoid issue. I can't remember exactly. However it happened on my 2012 ZL1 and they replaced the entire exhaust under warranty.

The 6th gens have an issue with the NPP where the solenoid will rattle like crazy sometimes.

Best bet for you? Since it's something in the exhaust after the cats I'd say go find an NPP exhaust that someone doesn't need anymore. I've seen people on here and Camaro5 trying to get rid of stock NPP systems and they're having to pretty much give them away.

Second option? Custom exhaust.

I remember seeing a technical service bulletin on this issue I don’t recall the affected years and models but you might want to inquire

The NPP rattle was a known problem and I believe the fix was to epoxy the broken shaft back together. If this the factory NPP exhaust on a 6th Gen then it should be covered by the 3/36 warranty.

I took the npp fuse out so I don’t have to head that annoying squeaking but this is a different sound its honestly like a metal on metal type of sound when I went to the dealer they said it could be a crack and need to weld it but I guess that wasn’t the case I might just get an axel back system cheaper then paying $2700.

I would think the NPP and or any exhaust system issues are covered under the 3y/36k B2B warranty or the 5y/80k federally mandated emission warranty.

If not the NPP actuators can be removed and replaced. Heck I might even know where a whole 6th SS NPP rear muffler is at still that was cut off the car with low mileage.

Has anyone replaced an actuator for the exhaust? Not the AFM one. I can’t seem to get a replacement actuator to work with my car. I tried TWO no ones and they don’t do anything. I connect my old one, and it still spins. (My old one broke somehow. It started skipping and making a loud metal on metal noise). Do I have to program it?

The valves needs to be re-calibrated every time they are replaced. You even have to do it if you do some of the repairs as shown in the service bulletin.
