"Reduced Engine Power" and CEL ON

Hi,

I started my car after a week today. In few seconds I got a check CEL and "Reduced Engine Power" on the information display.

I also got an email from Onstar that my car is in a serious issue and needs to go to the service center immediately. I pulled in the garage back and parked. Will go to the service center early next week.

My Engine Oil Life is at 8% and I was planning to take it for a change on the next dry day.

Is this due to the Engine Oil Life or anything serious?

My car has 5070 miles.

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks

My first oil change is already done about 3000 miles ago. This is my second one.

So you did one at 2k and 3k later your oil life is 8% ya you definately have a serious issue. Your either running no oil or you have a massive leak somewhere. Did you check under the hood?

I just pulled the oil dipstick and checked. I have oil upto the required level.
I do this once a month(check all fluids).

I plugged-in my OBDII and it returned no codes(may be that model is not compatible with my Camaro)

Weird, could be any number of things given the time of year.

The oil life triggers by time as well as mileage and what not. If he hasn’t driven it in a week and is waiting for a dry day to take it in, I imagine it doesn’t get driven much. The low oil life could just be the length of time he’s gone since a change vs. anything else.

So, OP, how long has it been since you had it changed and what’s your driving style like?

When I had my 2010 I got the reduced engine power light and it was the throttle body assembly. It took the dealership over 1 week to figure it out.

i would try a different scan tool, or try to 'clear codes' with yours, even if it doesnt show anything. could be a pending code in the background too.

if you do not drive the car very often, i would start with clearing the code, then go for a short drive and see if you can duplicate the problem. with a car that sits alot, it could very well be moisture or corrosion on the MAF, or any number of things sticking/angry from not being used normally.

i have seen several of these cars randomly go into reduced engine power for no real reason, and its almost always either VERY repeatable, or impossible to duplicate......so the quick test is to clear codes, go for a drive, and if the light stays off, it likely just had a bad morning

Hi all, Thank you for your suggestions.
I took the car to the dealership today, I did not notice any power reduction during my 8 mile drive. The car drove very normally.

The dealer scanned and told me that it is a bad "Gas Pedal Sensor". They have ordered it and expecting in a day or two. Has this happened to anybody else?

My previous oil change was in September 2017,
Though I dont drive it a lot, I start the car, idle it for few minutes, pull it to my driveway, run the heating/ cooling system.

Mine is a very normal driving style. I dont push it too much often, my max RPM will be 4000 to 5000 momentarily.
Haven't been to the track yet.

Just seems like a random component failure. It's not something seen commonly. Things just break sometimes. Hopefully it doesn't become a repetitive issue for you.

Glad they caught the problem for you and was able to pull the codes to see. These cars nowadays sure have a ton of components that can go south. I had my radiator fan go the past month and my car was overheating in traffic. Brought it in first time they couldn't figure it out, second time i did everything to get the fan to kick on and it wouldnt so i told the dealer the second time i went to check the fan as its not spinning. Fan was replaced that day as it was faulty. While this was the first real problem i encountered with the car after 2+ years i am still pleased that it was just the fan. 90% of the cars i have had in the past 15 years have all had some type of issue arise but this Camaro seems to give me the least amount of hassle which i am happy about. Now my trip 1000+ mile trip to Florida next week from NYC should be fun, fingers crossed LOL.
