6th Gen/50th Anniversary

Do you think the 2017 Camaro, "50th Anniversary" edition will still be the current 5th generation or the start of the 6th generation, if it doesn't begin earlier?...

The longest run of the same type models was Gen 2, which was 11yrs and Gen 3, was 10 yrs and Gen 4, 9yrs.

So Gen 5 could go 10+yrs which would mean the 50th anniversary model would be Gen 5. However, it could be a good time to spin the model to Gen 6.

Personally, I think the 50th anniversary model will be the Gen 5 model, why change something that is working and GM will have enough publicity with the 50th anniversary model, akin to the Vette's 60th anniversary marketing push.

No chance it will be a Gen 5. Too much competition from other manufacturers will force a generation change.

I suspect it will be a 6th gen. 7 years is a long time for a car design to be carried without a major redesign.

I believe the 6th gen Camaro is expected in 2014 and a 2015 model.

Seems GM is around a 5 year +/- gen change for it's models these days so it most likely will be the next gen for the 50th

This is true. Ford plans to change the Mustang design and dodge plans to move towards the barracuda title to replace the challenger. Chevy can only keep the gen 5 until it is unable to compete alongside the other two. I love the gen5 design and think they'll throw as many improvements and goodies as they can in this Camaro until competition forces a change in body. I think we may see the gen 5 here to stay for a little while longer. It's possible it can stay until 2017, only time will really tell. Only speculation as to what will happen down the line.

I read that tran had purchased the camaro6 domain. Is that true or just a rumor?

OP I bet it will be the 6th gen. Ford and dodge are pushing to hard for it not to be. Remember when the new camaro concept was introduced? Ford was sure to have a new model out by the release of the camaro in the 2010 model year.

To the best of my knowledge, GM has all but confirmed a Camaro reassign in 2015...

That's what I've heard as the most accepted date of the 6th gen. I'm hoping that's the case since I plan on getting the 50th.

There are a lot of current owners that will not fit in the smaller lighter Gen6. Me for one.

Well the domain lookup on camaro6.com is private and so is camaro5.com so we're still really at a 50-50 chance lol
