I was locked out from driving my car today.
today I went to the auto parts store to get some stuff for my silverado, and when I came out the car alarm went off. I didnt think much of it, as it happened 1 time previously a few days ago; but when I got in and pushed the start button and a message on the dash said no transponder. The fob still locked and unlocked the car, so i figured it had enough juice in it to still function correctly but apparently it did not. i went back in the store and bought a pack of 2032 batteries for the fob - which it then started right up.
luckily i was in a place that had the battery, otherwise i would have been walking. now i have a couple extras in the glove box in case it happens again.

You should try the old batteries again. I don't believe your issue was with the batteries. I had a similar issue where the car would not start. I put the transponder in the cup holder and it still would not start. Thirty minutes later it started as though nothing was wrong.
I can't recall, however, if the doors would lock/unlock as my car was in my garage and I was trying to go to work. |

If the battery dies, you can place the fob in the cupholder. There's usually a graphic that comes on the center display that shows you where to place it. In the event of a battery failure, that will still allow you to start the car...

The question still remains. Why is this happening? It’s the 2nd time I have read this.

It's usually the rear most or driver's side cup holder, check the owner's manual.
I replace my fob batteries at the earliest sign of weakness, i.e. the range on the fob starts to diminish. |

it didnt work. possibly it was the fob re-boot that did it. the car is only 6 months old, it shouldnt be dead after such a short use I would think.

Only six months old I would definitely call the dealer and ask them to look up technical service bulletins that might address this issue there are several out there for some weird stuff going on I don’t recall that this was one of them however

Myself, I am NOT a fan of push button starting, Having to stick a key in an ignition is just 1 more security check, plus, I wont lose my key if it slides out of my pocket and into the Bermuda triangle.
