R.
You have to remember that when you purchase the ZL1 1LE package for around $7K(?), you are not buying those additional parts (Aero/suspension) on top of a standard ZL1, you are "replacing" them with the 1LE parts. You get the DSSV suspension instead of the Mag ride...and the Mag ride is not cheap by any means. The ZL1 comes with a front and rear spoiler already, so you are replacing those as well. When you buy 1LE parts and add them to your standard ZL1, you still have the original parts left over, so the price is not quite the same.

I don't have an A10, but having driven a Z28 with DSSV for a while, it is just not a good daily driver for me. It's okay for a while...days...weeks...after about a month or a year...I found myself parking the Z28 in the garage for track days and driving the Vette to work everyday instead. I promised my wife if I bought the ZL1, I would not park her in garage, under a car cover...I would drive her and I do, daily 100+ miles a day. The mag ride is awesome for daily in Tour mode. Alot more comfortable than my wife's Volt lol

I just want the look and possibly the Aero benefits of the 1LE. No DSSV for me, I live in the earthquake zone, pot holes, cracks, uneven and wavy roads everywhere.

I have had no problems yet but that's short jogs to 160 sustained speeds is usually how metal fatigues..

Honestly on a windy day with the wing and dive planes now it feels like the car is more sensitive being blown around out of its lanes.
I was wondering about winds/cross winds. I live up in the hills and it is like hurricane season for half of the year it seems. Great info, thank you

...I'll still end up doing it though...still saving my pennies lol

Thank you for this

I was going to do it anyways, like like the many other people who already have, but always nice to have more reassurance that everything is going to be alright

I know I am going to be crucified for this.. as I don’t have pictures, and cannot as it is in the shop an hour away from me.. but I had the wing on my trunk, and took it off to go into the shop, and it did bend where the stantions mount to the spoiler. You could not see where it was bent until you pulled the wing off. Imagine if you pulled the spoiler back, standing at the rear license plate, along a flat axis.. it left indentations on the rear most part of the deck lid, near the rear of the two bolts, on both the driver and passenger side mounting pads.

Completely unnoticeable without taking the wing off. But I am convinced it chang d the wing angle, as it pulled the front mounting hole up as well. Will try and get pictures up when I get the car back post Christmas.

The car had seen no higher than 160 mph with the wing on. Car is a 2016, so not the 2018 decklid.

Anyone go 160+ in a genuine 1LE and remove the wing for inspection? Maybe they deform slightly too.

Must be a very small change to threaded area that makes a big difference. How can they be the same part number?

Something as simple as this could be an easy fix for pre-2018 trunk lids.

https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-...3194025&rt=rud

I remember back in the day, Sport Compact Car Magazine actually filled the unibody rails of their project 300ZX with a structural foam and it made quite a bit of difference.

Would the part number change if the bolts were different? Does the swap come with new bolts or has everyone reused their original hardware?

I'm wondering if a wider "washer" on the underside of the deck lid to disperse the pressure a bit more could solve that.

Ha ha
And what if the regular Zl1 1LE has its trunk bent also....
But nobody will know because the wing is not supposed to be removed

Likely, its just another piece or multiple stamping spot welded between the inner and outer skin. We really wont know until someone cuts them open but at the same time, I'm inclined to believe GM on this one.

Its very possible and does occur.

Its called an "Accelerated Stall"

It sometimes happens in automotive aerodynamics when turbulent air is presented to the airfoil (among other conditions).

In order to properly analyze the alleged Rear Wing Only Disruptions you would need the following known data of a Factory Static 1LE;

1) Final Tested Airflow profile;
2) CG = Center of Gravity, (loaded with full equipment and fluids)
3) Front and Rear Axle Weights, (as tested WITH DRIVER).

Just sayin'

Would anyone want to be following a standard ZL1 with the 1LE wing on the track when it pulls loose? Anyone want to be responsible for the aftermath? There is going to be a cumulative effect so it might not be the first time or even the tenth time when it fails. Not worth the risk IMO. If you are just driving on the street and maybe hitting 100 mph every once in a while, probably not a big deal.

Seems it would be pretty simple to weld in some reinforcements under the trunk if you really want to go this direction. Could probably even just use some adhesive to hold some small plates in place and help distribute the load.

I checked mine bolts still good no cracks or dents thus far.. hell the dbl sided tape is hard enough to pull off lol!
