SS m6 (manual) and skip shift in 25mph zones?

When driving the SS m6 manual around your neighborhood, does the car force you to shift from 1st to 4th. I want to be able to drive with the NPP is stealth mode around my street, but I am used to using 2nd and 3rd to cruise at 25 mph. I don't want to be forced into track or shift at high RPMs just to use 2nd and 3rd, but I guess it is what it is.

How does the manual gen 6 SS handle this low speed driving? In tour mode am I forced to drive the 25mph in 4th, skipping 2nd and 3rd? How does it feel driving that slow in 4th?

The skip shift can be ignored. When you are shifting, just pause a bit after pulling it out of 1st and then drop it into 2nd or 3rd, it will go without a problem.

+1 or you can simply install a skip shift eliminator for $12 and it will no longer lock you out of 2nd and 3rd gear.

Gen5DIY sells it

I have a lot of areas like that where it's just a 25 mph zone. When that happens I either pause out of first before going to second, or I go to third.

I've been telling people this for years. When I drive a car with CAGS, I rarely if ever get "gated".

Everyone seems he77 bent on yanking the lever hard, straight back even when they are driving slow and leasurely.

Change your technique just a little bit and you won't have any issues finding 2nd or 3rd.

At 25 mph, I've never had skip shift kick in. Shift from 1st to 2nd at 1200 rpm's or so if you're going that slow. Skip shift won't come on.

I was the guy you described above.

Bought a skip shift eliminator on my 5th gen and it fixed the problem.

Definitely recommend getting one if anyone is impatient when shifting like me.

Why should those of us driving stick for 20+ years change our technique for something silly like this?

Buy the eliminator harness for $15 and call it a day.

How does this gen 6 SS feel in 4th gear at 15-25?

I drive a 5sp manual v6 right now, and there's no way I could do 4th
at those low speeds.

Cant speak for the 6th gen. But in my 5th gen SS when it would force a 1st to 4th it would bog down the engine like crazy. It would go but it didn't seem like the engine liked me dropping it into fourth.

The stop sign come so quick in my town that I don't even pull out of 1st. I hit 3K rpms and either pop it into neutral and coast or brake and slow with the engine. As for stealth mode, forget it. The NPP start up wide open, if they are awake from the start up why worry about stealth mode.

Just so you know, it doesn't force you to drive in 4th gear. The only thing required when CAGS kicks in is that the shifter touch the 4th gear position. Once it does this, even if the clutch pedal is pressed, it turns off, and you can go to any gear you want. If you're in a 25 zone, just shift out of first sooner.

CAGS is so freaking easy to drive around that the thought of actually spending even $15 and rolling under the car to get rid of it just seems silly. Seriously, just get to know it a bit and by the end of two weeks you'll forget the car even has it.
