Interstate Break In

So I expect my car next week and have a 1400 mile round trip scheduled to visit family. Does anyone think that driving the car at a constant speed for such a long distance at break in will pose a problem?

Well, yeah. I think break-in recommends varying your speed for the first several hundred miles....Look in your owner's manual. Good luck.

Here we go again

I'm no expert on the manual break in procedure, but I believe you should just stay out of cruise control and vary your speed.

In all honesty, Enthusiast views aside, if you think of the millions of vehicles sold a year, even a small percentage of the owners know about breaking in a car, you'd be crazy. Cars are built to last, and the first 1500 miles will not be the determining factor of this.

Just vary your speed and enjoy your car.

Exit every ~40 miles and get right back on shifting at 3800 rpm. Vary speed along the way

Just changing the RPM is not sufficient. Cylinder pressure combined with varying RPM is what you need to strive for during the break in cycle. If you are going to adhere to the 4500 RPM limit that is fine but take the time to go full throttle in different gears up to 4500 RPMs on occasion early in the cycle.

It's a car. You're fine. Just change the oil before you go and have some fun during your trip.

It's best if you can do about 200 street stop & go driving before getting on constant driving. This helps breaking in tranny, gear box, rings, valve sittings and etc. Just stay below 4K RPM with mild pressing on gas.
Then change the oil and go on your trip.

Agreed...it's important to vary speeds and RPMs during the break in.

Maybe find your self a nice twisty route for the first few hours of driving?

My concern would not be the break-in if you just vary your speed, but possibly new car gremlins. Good Luck!
