750-800 RWHP range and tires

Hey fellas,

For those with upgraded bolt-ons in that range, what tires are you running for street use to maximize potential? I’m looking at getting one of the vengeance packages but want to be realistic about the ability to access the HP. I plan on keeping the stock ZL1 rims.

After researching as much as I can in the forums...I can’t find much on the topic utilizing the stock ZL1 rims.

I don’t plan on tracking the car, just looking for some upgraded HP for the occasional roll race for the GT500s and Hellcats...thus the need to capitalize on the right tires. Spending the money for 800hp without the ability to use it seems a bit dumb...

Any insight would be much appreciated!

Really only two good options for the street, the Nitto 555R2 or the Toyo R888R.

I just wore out a set of toyo r888r in 315/30/20 on the stock rim and I’m going to replace it with the same thing in 325/30/20. You may have to take 20 minutes and slightly relocate the wiring under the drivers side wheel well liner. Everything I’ve heard says these are about as good as they get for what you want on the street. They are noisy though!

I'm using the stock 19" rim with MPS4S which hold fine in 3rd above 30 mph rolling

Heads up
I hope you realize that 2020 and newer ZL1's with A10 transmissions can't
be tuned for shift points and or torque management because they have
the T93 encrypted TCM which is not supported by HP Tuners and will never be broken/unlocked which will prevent you from getting the most out of
your bolt on horsepower improvements.
Your tuner/shop may try to convince you that it does not matter much,
but it really does matter as far as getting power to the ground.

Z OH 6, what did Vengeance tell you about this for the stage III?

Vengeance Racing has a way around the torque management so there's no issue there. You're correct that you can't adjust shift points though.

No issues for any of their stages really. Shift points are a limitation so you'll likely want to use a cam that makes power within the factory rpm redline to get the most out of the cam. You can't really make the best use of a stage 3 cam from Vengeance with an A10 without a torque convertor swap anyway. If you're going with at least a stage 4 package, I would use their stage 2 camshaft which works well with the A10 without a converter swap and still makes good power within the factory rpm redline. Manual trans cars can use a stage 3 cam without any issues.

Its not just shift points... The entire ECM is torque based. Without being able to get into the TCM and increase the torque limits on the trans to let it know its ok for X amount of torque, the ecm can close throttle and do other things to reduce power.

I don't think vengance has anyway around this as its controlled via the TCM module.... Maybe got around something else, but not torque managment of the trans.

I'm fully aware of everything you're stating and I've asked Vengeance about all of this. As I stated, Vengeance has a way around this.

Pretty sure Vengeance's way around the TM is by adjusting the minimum spark table so the ECU doesn't not pull as much timing on the shifts. Obviously not going to be as good as a full TCM tune but it's better then nothing and most would likely never know any different. There is a big difference is shift firmness when the trans shifts with 4-6 degrees of engine timing instead of -10 degrees.

Far as tires I agree with Zoh6. 555r2 or 888r...

They do hook the best but they wear out in 2500 miles tops and they are not as stable at high speeds. Also can be hit and miss balancing...I have had to return them and get replacements. The Nittos still hook good, drive good, and offer decent tread life. The original 555r I was able to get 7k not easy miles. The 555r2 has even more tread depth so they should go longer. The r888 is hard to beat but they are super noisy so I will stay with 555r2's.

I do not have near that amount of HP, but my ZLE makes a ton of torque down low. The PS4s have held up quite well and are an all around excellent tire on the street, even from a dig.

FWIW, I have no doubt that Vengeance has a response to the TM issue. They are spot on with their knowledge of the LT4 and the 6th gen Camaro. If anyone can mitigate that issue, those guys can.
