Why the 2016 Camaro SS will absolutely ROUT the 2016 Mustang GT.

Take a look at Motor Trend's spec sheet for the 2015 SS 1LE vs the 2015 Mustang GT taken from a video on their popular YouTube channel.
(video linked at the end of this post)

Onto the 2016 Camaro...
~460HP
~460 LB-FT
200+ LBS Less than the 5th gen. (Compare it to the 1LE 3886lbs.)

Compare these numbers to the 2015 Mustang GT with track pack.
435 HP
400 LB-FT
3814 LBS
Now, On paper, the Camaro will DESTROY the mustang. Come Fall 2015, I'll be looking forward to seeing Mustang Crumbs all over the front of these Camaros.

Hmm….that black GT is probably the first time I've ever found that Mustang attractive. That looked mighty fine, indeed.

But still. The Camaro is the far superior looker of the two. And I think that's a very important factor as well, which you didn't mention. It also will win because it dominates in the looks department. Assuming of course that all the speculations and renders of the 6th gen are accurate. But I trust GM. They know how to make sex on wheels.

Interior is another factor... the 15 mustang has a pretty nice interior package.. but from the speculations here.. chevy is going to make some huge improvements.. cross your fingers

I didn't realize how close in weight the new Mustang is to the outgoing Camaro.

Yea it's strange that Ford would design a new Mustang that is heavier than the outgoing one, especially when they knew that GM would be working hard on reducing the weight of the Camaro!

Actually...most speculated the Mustang would weigh about the same or more than the outgoing one, so I wasn't to surprised. (Well, many fanboys were thinking they would get a much lighter version) Ford had to add in additional structure, safety equipment, upgraded interior, and larger wheels and that added mass. Camaro basically was already working with all of that. The base Mustang is still around 150+ pounds lighter than a base Camaro, but once you start adding in the options like the comparison above they get closer.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a 6th gen "1LE" (if they come back) end up weighing less than the Mustang used in the comparison above.

I love that comparison, I think Ive watched it 10 times.
Its funny how the tables have turned, the Mustang will now be the porker AND looks like a fish. Goes around comes around.

Ok just to be clear, you think 25 HP and within a hundred pounds is "destroy"? Love you optimism, good sir but you are probably around .1 or so to 60. That is a solid win but farrrr from destroys.

Yep the GT in the test is a premium with PP. Every one I have seen reviewed by a magazine has been similarly equipped and weighing in around 3800lbs. Base GT manuals weigh in at 3700lbs.

I like how the 1LE handles so much better. I keep saying this, GM will not chase down horse power. Their direction has been to make the best overall car. 1LE, ZL1 and Z28 proves it's where they want to go. I'm fine with that direction

Its not gonna rocket away from it, but will be a significant advantage. Think of the higher peak AND average torque advantage. 60 lb ft peak advantage, and more than that below the curve. Combine that with the weight difference.

I do like the comparisons and yes, the 6amaro should do even better vs. new stange then did the 2015 1LE, but like Number3 said, in these timing comparisons we are talking small differences.

What I put more stock in is the overall driving experiences of the professional drivers that test these cars - how they handle on the track, how is the braking - does it fade quickly - what is the overall enjoyment of driving the car - and for these I think the last two generations of the Camaro have outdone the Mustang, and for that reason, I look to the Camaro as my choice between the two, and the Challenger as well.

Take a look at the comparisons between the GT-R and ZL1 or Z06, yes the GT-R beats them in times, but the drivers usually say they enjoy driving the RWD vehicles over the AWD GT-R. BTW I'm not a GT-R hater, I think that car is insane and if i could afford one, it would probably be in the mix for me.

I think the 6th gen will be about .5 seconds faster in 1/4 than a Mustang if they don't do something.

Unfortunately for the Mustang, the 15's got slower over the 14's.

I'm amazed at how much HP and torque ford gets out of that lil 5.0. That's IMPRESSIVE!
