When the heater core is replaced, since the windsheild has to come off do they need to replace it with a new one or can the old one be put back on? For some reason I thought once it was removed a new one had to go on but my dealership said they were putting the old windsheild back on.

Any help would be appreciated since I think it will be done this afternoon and want to make sure its done properly.

Removing the entire dash from the car for a heater core replacement isn't crazy. But the camaro is the first car I've heard of that needed the windshield removed. I've also seen cars that need the windshield or back glass replaced because of the seals getting ruined when the glass is cut out.

I wonder what is causing these to go bad so early....

From what I was told, the heater core needed to be removed by lifting it out instead of pulling it out.

I'm not sure if not getting the HVAC update had anything to do with it, but I didn't get the update until I started to get that foul smell coming from the A/C vents

I think the heater core failure is due to a hose that was cut too long and when under pressure, presses on the heater core.

Okay, I hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but my car is in the shop now having it's heater core replaced. I was also told they would need to pull the windshield and the dash. I will be buying an extended warranty cause I don't want to know what this would cost to fix.

I'm having my heater core replaced next week when the part comes in. They didn't say anything about the windshield. I'll confirm that with them tomorrow.

And yes that picture just made me want to puke....my poor girl :(
