Oil Dipstick In Block - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

So, i installed LT headers this weekend and everything went about as well as could be for a very amateur wrencher. I did have a problem at the end of my install however when i had to try to put the oil dipstick back into it's unseen hole back in the block. Does anyone have experience or info on this and how i can go about locating exactly where it has to go back in? I know you cant see it but a general location or direction on hot to get it back into it's home would help immensely.

Jesus, i know better than to do this before searching. I couldn't find anything yesterday but i must have still be fuming over not being able to get the GD thing back in. I found some info on the location. It's behind the starter and a heat shield...great.....design.

I took the heat shield off the starter and was able to see the hole from the top looking between the header tubes. I installed Kooks, don't know what you are running. Once you get the tube lined up, it will kinda click into place. If the bracket on the tube does not line up with the bolt hole on the cyl. head, it is not all the way in. Hope this helps.

You need to find your line of sight with a flash light before putting the header on. With the header off, you'll see the sight line is between two cylinders and looking down through the ABS pipes that are in the area. Then put the header on, and shine the flashlight down this exact same line of sight location.

If you don't find that flashlight sight line before putting the header on, it's going to be tough. If you do, it's a piece of cake using the ABS pipes and between which cylinders as sight line references.

I had some trouble doing this also. I first located it with a flashlight. Then slid it between the header tubes while I lined up the mounting bracket with the bolt hole in the cylinder head. It kind of snapped into place. I hope this helps.
