Any must have options for a camaro ss?
Probably going to get a 2016/2017 camaro 1ss. Really only concerned about the engine and from what I looked up on the canadian chevy website, it comes very well equipped anyway. Would not be tracking it, maybe just once or twice a year, otherwise just a DD.
Are there any options that most people would agree are a must have? Only thing I think so far is the exhaust that lets you choose the mode. Btw, what is the loudness level of the stock ss exhaust compared to the 4 different modes of the performance one (quiet, touring, sport, track I believe). Is default sport for example? |

I just got my 1SS, and love it! I went with the A8, Magnetic Ride Control, Dual Mode Exhaust, etc.
So to answer your questions, I fell Magnetic Ride Control is an awesome option if you aren't going to mod your suspesion a ton. I test drove an SS without it, and the ride was stiffer and harsher than my 2011 LT camaro, so I was a little worried that my new SS would be a stiffer ride than I am used to (this is my DD also). But, with the MRC option, it is a softer more comfortable ride, but the susbension is stiffer as far as performance goes. This car corners without any body motions like a Ferarri, but will still suck up a pothole in the turn like a Cadillac. I can't believe how amazing the MRC is. The Dual Mode Exhaust is another great option. Basically, the comptuer controls when to open the exhaust flaps to bypass the muffler. It opens the flaps when starting the car, and under agressive throttle (hate to use that word, but you know what I mean). And it opens up more sooner and more frequently the more agressive the mode you select. In track mode, the flaps are open all the time. In Snow/Ice they are closed all the time. You can also override the modes manually to be what you want regardless of the mode. When you are driving on the freeway, and the flaps are closed, you can hardly hear the exhuast. When the flaps are open, you will have no trouble heard the exhuast (and neither will anyone else). Not sure how it compares to a non Dual Mode exhaust because I haven't heard it. As for default, the car will start in Sport mode if you shut the car off in Sport mode, but if you shut the car off in any other mode, it will default to Tour mode on start. These two options are my favorite so far, and not availble on most cars today. Well worth having in my opinion (unless of course, you are going to modify the suspension or exhaust anyway). |

So you're not sure what engine? If you get the turbo, you won't have to worry about the exhaust option. Both the V6 and V8 can have the NPP (dual mode exhaust) option.

MRC and NPP are options that were on my must have list. I tend to want more of the convenience items, but those two were must haves, along with the 6M transmission.

Gotta get MRC and NPP.
I suggest the NAV option on the radio. It is really nice. you will not have to waste data on your phone (unless you have unlimited then that doesn't matter) or set up a different GPS in the car. I have an iphone but I still wanted the NAV. now that I got it, I wouldn't go without it. The NAV option was better than I expected. But- the MRC and NPP are a definite must! BTW track mode is the loudest. You can go into the settings and leave on Track for the exhaust if you want but still drive in Sport suspension, Touring suspension, or Snow/Ice Modes. Basically you can mix exhaust options with the driving options....to answer your question though, touring would be the "default" mode if there is one. MRC is a must, I have the NPP but not sold on it yet. There's a rattle at certain times. Other than that it does sound awesome. Not quite as good as my Corsa on the vette. I'd take the 2ss for a daily driver though. The NAV is great too. I pondered back and forth. Ended up taking every option. lol

Welcome to the forum
Blind spot monitoring Back up camera Heated and cooled seats Heated steering wheel ( I see you live in Canada) The 2SS is well worth the upgrade and although they are not necessary, they make for a pleasant daily driver.

NPP is a must, some will say MRC as well, that's preference related though. I wouldn't get it, since it wouldn't be my DD. I would go with 6 pot upgrade, that's just me as well. It's not a must. That's for performance aspect.
If you're considering everything else, get the 2ss package. One of the 200$ wheel upgrades. Blacked out OEM taillights, possibly the GM CAI with tune, depending on how it does. That's it. Then get paint film protection wrap for the car. |

Oh, I meant my main priority is performance, so I'm mostly set to have a base 1ss (v8 a8), and not too worried about leather seats, nav, memory seats, etc.

Thanks everyone!
Still curious though, does anyone know how the stock v8 exhaust compares to the NPP? |

I have MRC and can't say I'm overly impressed with it for $1600. It's nice but people make it sound like this godly thing (I never drove a fifth gen on bad roads, so maybe this is coming from their prior experience).
I owned a 2015 ATS that soaked up bumps better (no MRC on AWD). It had smaller, lighter wheels/tires though, which would make a huge difference. Stock 17s and 225 versus 20s and staggered. On bad roads, you definitely still know it's a bad road. But I don't think anything short of a super cushy car with smaller wheels would really hide that. NPP is a must IMO. Plus RS package on LT's. |
