Well I was ordering 19" track wheels and tires for the 1LE but bought this instead..
So I was online and had put tires and wheels in my shopping cart ($5200 worth) and I got distracted by a call. When I got back online I decided what the heck, let's see whats on craigslist today...bad idea...or maybe not. So instead of buying track wheels/tires, I have a new "disposable" track car. I paid $5000 for it. What do you think?
1985 Porsche 944 Track / Race Car. Built by TRG. $23,500+ in receipts! Completely lightened-stripped interior, lights etc. Rebuilt engine with cross drilled rod journals, lightened and balanced crank shaft, reconditioned rods, new clutch with lightened flywheel, new Schnell short shift kit, Sparco quick release and steering wheel, Halon fire suppression system, Bilstein coil over suspension, solid engine mounts, Unichip, roll bar, simplified electronics, two sets of wheels, three race seats, lexan rear hatch (not installed yet). Less than 7 hours on rebuild. Only been used for DE and track days. Ready for Track Days, Auto Cross, SCCA /NASA 944 Spec Class. You can't build it for anything close to this... |

944 are fun track cars as I use to drive one about 15 years ago.....You will miss the HP, Torque and lower lap times the 1LE will net.
But as you said it is disposable and something has to be said about that. I recently tried to buy back a 200whp, 2000lb Civic track car I finished and sold about 4 years ago just to have a toy to ball up on track...AND I really liked the cost of a 205/50/15 race tire compared to the 305/19s now! Have fun...

Awesome track car, you got it for a gift. Congrats. Buckler and TRG are top flight, those cars are so neutral on the track, a lot cheaper than adding $$ to the 1LE and cheap to fix. Nothing like door to door racing.

LOL that looks like fun dropspeed! I bet it is quick too, would be a monster at Laguna. The gravel slide off the corkscrew 2 weeks ago + the cost of the 1LE + the $$$ 19 wheels/ tires = smart to buy a fully prepped car for $5000. it weighs 2640 with me in it, so it should be a blast. My kids (21/25) really want to learn to race and there was no way that was happening in the 1LE......I can't afford a $40,000 mistake.

Thanks TW, I just could not pass it up! I can't wait to get it out to Laguna and break it in! I am at the limits on the track with the 1LE and something had to give...Next year will be wheel to wheel all year.

Thanks Billy, yep at $5k if I ball it, I can just laugh and walk away.....not so much with the Camaro
CamAnon it is not street legal as there are no headlights etc. However I may just buy a 944 commuter car and just license plate it with those to drive to the track.....Liability might be a concern if there was a severe injury accident, but if that's the case, it would probably be one anyway... |

LOL Bizaro, believe it or not I used to make a good living buying from CL and selling on Ebay when I lived in Atlanta, so I have alerts set for everything....including track/race cars. I was literally checking out my tires/wheels when the phone rang and I got distracted, I popped open another window when I got back and checked my email.....there this was listed for $5900, I called him and an hour later i was there looking at it, I asked what the lowest he was going to take and he said $5k.....didn't have to thing too long about that one! He has every receipt and the car is ready to go!
