Best place / brand of tires to get?
What's my best option for drag radials? - Vendors, please feel free to chime in with recommendation & price & links. These will be used to drive 15 miles to the track, used at the track, then driven home from the track (all fwy mileage) - then we'll be putting our street tires back on for anything else.
Going on a 2012 SS Camaro I need them by 4/25 so trying to get some research in asap. 18x11 wheel size. For reference, sizes against stock (doesn't have to be one of these) Last edited by hiddenangels89; 04-13-2015 at 04:36 PM. |

If you're sticking with an 18" wheel, I'd suggest using Mickey Thompson drag radials; they're the closest drag radial to a slick that I've seen. As far as it's profile size, you're going to want to cross reference your gearing, peak power and ideal gear you want to cross the line in. There are several calculators online that'll help you with that task. As far width is concerned, go with the thinnest tire possible that gives you the best traction for your particular setup. Just a little bit of slip at the launch is ideal to prevent it from bogging.

I want more sidewall, thinking 325x45x17, 28" tire diameter on 17"x11" Welds.

im dropping from a 20" to 18" (already have the 18" wheels for rear).
im not doing anything with gearing. i spin 315's from a 70mph roll, so a thinner tire is like reverse logic, granted they're street tires. ill probably be going with m/t's, whats the widest tire i should ever (safely / recommendation) mount on an 11" wide wheel? 335's? |

Sounds like you should be upgrade suspension components if you're spinning 315's at that speed. Either that, or maybe you should push past drag radials all together.

We just got 325/40r18's M&H Drag radials. they feel extremely soft, i think this will eliminate the traction issues ha

So he meant if you do a 17 (or 18) inch tall wheel for the track and it will "bite" when launching using a 305 tire, then do not go to a 325 tire. The wider the tire, the more rotating mass you have, (more weight.) so you want to go as narrow as you can while getting a good launch. You will always spin more on a 20" wheel than a 17" or 18" wheel. The less sidewall you have the less your tires will "bite" at launch. Someone smarter than me can elaborate on that, but that's something you need to keep in mind. I hope that helps.
