M6 Tansmission
Question, I getting ready to do a few modifications to my 2014 SS M6 and was wondering how much horsepower the transmission can handle before having to worry about it.

What front end do you have there??.
An I think that a stock tranny can run over 500hp but limit around 600hp.... |

from everything ive seen and heard the M6 will hold upwards of 800+ with a good clutch.

I ran my 2010 m6 with a twin disc for over 700 whp/850tq. I broke the shitty dss axles every time. I swapped the the m6 for a stage 6 rpm tranny thinking i lost a gear...but it was the rear again. The stock tranny is a monster with the right set up. But if you plan on doing over 600 whp its better to ne safe then sorry. Swap to a better set up before you do break it.

If you aren't drag racing, you will be fine. Myself and others on here who aren't actively drag racing have had our stock TR6060s holding up to over 1000whp.
If drag racing, definitely upgrade. Traction is what breaks things in the driveline. As stated, you will break axles before you break the trans. Add in rear suspension upgrades to fight wheelhop (that will break things without traction) and upgrade your axles or drop in a 9" or S60 conversion before doing the transmission. |

I was told the trans and block were good for ~900-1000 by multiple people. (That's what I'm shooting for with mine.) You'd just need to upgrade your driveline and clutch.

Just upgrade clutch, driveshaft, rear end, and axles. The ZL1 driveline kit is proven to hold over a 1000rwhp if you want to go that route instead of spending 7 or 8k on rear end

Well the T56 has been around for a while now and is known to handle 550-600 max reliably in stock form. The TR6060 internals are supposed to be a big step up from the T56 guts, so I'd expect the TR6060 to easily handle 650-700whp+ at minimum. It of course depends on how much you abuse it as well.

depends on if you drag it a lot. On drag radials at the track it won't handle as much as it will from say a 60 roll. Also a good clutch setup that you don't grind on will also make it handle more. so depends on levels of abuse basically. All that being the transmission is the single strongest part of the driveline and so far I've made 1150 on it and many others have made 1000+. It's not invincible but it is damn strong

If you want a little more peace of mind, you can add the CTS-V rear bearing and the bronze shifter cup. If the trans is out of the car, they are pretty easy to put in. If it is in the car, the rear bearing would be pretty easy to install. The bronze shifter bushing more difficult because it goes in from the top.
Rockland Standard Gear sells the bearing kit and the bronze cup you can get from a vendor. I purchased mine from Tick Performance. |
