Actual torque numbers for the 1LE?

With the ungraded 3.91 rear and M6 trans., I am hearing the torque multiplier is increased by 13%. This would put the actual torque numbers for the 1LE at 475 tq. Is this accurate?

13% over what? 1LE has a trans with different ratios than a SS. SS has a different rear end ratio so maybe the 13% increase is if you go from stock SS ratio in a SS to a 3.91 ratio in a SS?

13% over the stock SS rating of 420 tq.

That's not how gearing works. The engine stays at the same rating.

The rating stays the same, but what are the actual numbers? I mean if it's the same, what's the point?

Physical (as in physics) torque is, indeed, multiplied as they claim...that's why the car feels quicker...and likely is a bit quicker...the change in gearing results in an increase in mechanical advantage.

But the engine is not producing any more power...and if I understand it correctly - that's what dynamometers are calibrated to read.

For reference: here's the ratios...and the overall ratios (once through the rear end)...note that the real difference is in how the gears are spaced much closer, and more evenly 2-5. That's what makes the 1LE transmission so nice on a track.Name: SS1Le gear ratios.jpg

That's why dyno testing is done in 4th gear. One to one gearing. One rpm input = one rpm output. No tourque multiplication.

Basically, you can't mathematically make a claim on horsepower or torque based on something that isn't measured in that equation. It's also a bad habit to add horsepower claims from parts to your stock vehicle. Headers will not get you 30+ hp on top of 15+ hp for your exhaust and 5+ hp for your intake. Don't add horsepower based on what you've done to your car. Get real numbers with a dyno, but more importantly take it to the track! That's where you'll see the real gains.

Yes. By about 1/4 of an inch overall.

EDIT: I'm wrong...¾ inch.

It is closer to just over 3/4" OD delta

285/35/20= 27.85" OD
275/40/20= 28.66" OD
