Came across this on youtube. Looks cool, not sure its worth a retrofit though.

agree...its nice, but I dont see (or couldnt see) any more features that I dont already have..(like different pages etc. in the hud)
tearing out the whole dash is a lot of work in itself.....that'd be like remodeling your house to watch color TV.... |

I made the video yesterday. Al let me sit in his car to take the vid.
It is cool to see the red line on the tach, but after talking to the guy driving the Crystal red ZL! he said it wasn't all that much different. What I could tell from the brief time I got to check it out was, most of the text and everything is white. The most color you get is the bowtie. It might be different for directions, but there is no way Al would let me drive a CTF.

The numbers look sharper, more distinct with the new HUD. I'd like to have it for that reason. Our HUDs remind me of using DOS in computers 20 years ago. Does the retrofit involve pulling the dash apart? If so, that would likely be a no go for me..

I definitely like the color HUD better except for the gold bowtie; but I still think GM missed the mark on this version of the HUD. It should be configurable so you can put relevant data like boost psi in the ZL1 mode. Maybe on the next gen.

I get all I need out of the current HUD. I don't think it would be worth the cost to do a retrofit. It does look nice, though. It's just not that nice.

I did the HUD install on my 2010 and even though it is a lot of work, it isn't as bad as what you might expect. You just have to give yourself an entire day to devote to doing it, and get someone who has the experience. If it is possible, (more than likely direct swap for the 2013 ZL1), check the thread for the 2010 HUD installs and see if you can get one of the ones that did the install to help.

Looks nice but I'm currently happy with the HUD I have now. Makes you think of the endless possibilities the 6th Gen will have if we are getting this now apart of a refresh. Thanks for the vid!

I think it finishes off the look of the refresh with the Mylink navigation system and color DIC.

I also had a chance to sit in the car and look at all the displays on the HUD, and as far as I'm concerned, meh.
yes there is a bit of color added to some of the characters in some of the displays, but nothing that knocked my socks off. The display did seem to have a bit higher resolution, making the characters a bit sharper and clearer. Yes it was nice to see the redline in red on the tach. All in all, did I see enough to impress me and make me want to do a conversion? Nope. |

Does it respond faster than the current HUD? My only gripe with the current HUD is that it's slow.
