But based on what GM has said publicly, and what they are telling members of the press, I actually think GM may be *sandbagging* a bit on the weight savings and that it will be MORE than 200lbs across the board.

Comments like this one from Autoblog "Though the new car is said to be more than 200 pounds lighter, that's a blanket number that applies to the entire Camaro range. The V6 model is actually about 300 pounds lighter, and that difference is apparent in our back-to-back drives. "

Article is here: http://www.autoblog.com/2015/05/17/2...e-first-drive/

If thats true, and its looking increasingly harder to discount, then we are probably looking at a 34xx V6 and maybe even a sub 3700 1SS. That is going to be a killer combo.

The Camaro 6th gen weight claim seems to be the big debate amongst a couple of my Mustang pals and on their forums. One of my track buddies has a new GTPP and always talked about the "extra 300lb fat chick in the passenger seat" in my 1LE to get under my skin. But when the news broke that the new stang was heavier, and when the C&D comparison came out and their "weight as tested" showed my 1LE was 3884 and his GTPP was 3810...well he stopped bringing it up. Maybe because I weigh 150 and he weighs about 240, which makes my car lighter :-)

Would love to see a 1SS with mag ride, recaros, and 6sp in the upper 3600s and a 2SS at 3700.

I thought I had read that the "approx 300lb" weight savings would be if you compared a t4 model, to a last gen v6. Engine for engine is 200+. Let's hope it's real. I'm sure fully loaded to the gills with MRC and cooled seats, yada yada, it will only be around 100lbs drop, but that's different.

20's are standard too. Much better looking than the junk 18's on the Mustang too.

but they didn't "steal" the front end for the mustang or any other car. That was more the point I was making.

From a performance perspective the 18's are superior to 20's...fyi

Agree on some points. The low end and mid range torque is what most want, the coyote is pretty much no match there.

People who drag race want low and mid range torque, but Camaro owners have evolved beyond that knuckle-dragging venue to the playground of real cars, the road course, right? If that's the case, who are these "most" you speak of?

Over on M6G there's a former Stingray owner who said the LT1 kind of crap out past 5,600? Like it falls on its face.

Can anyone comment on that?

99% of street racers that you failed to mention.

He's full of shit most likely, he wrecked his stingray, could not get another so he settled for a mustang.

Im no engineer but it would be easy for GM to push the powerband higher for more hp and lose some/no tq with a slightly more agressive cam, LS6 style. That would make a nice Z28 engine!

Maybe he came from a boss mustang before the c7. Those thongs turn 7500-8000rpm with just tunes so that would seem a bit off when going to a car that only turns 6200rpm.

That would still be drag racing, correct? See, I agree with you. Despite claims by some that drag racing is passé and road racing is king, reality is that most people buying Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers hardly ever see a track of any kind.
