The gen5 SS cars were 13.0-13.3 cars stock, review after review has proven that. The 11-14 Mustang GT 5.0 coyote is a 12.8-13.0 car all day long. They also put up better road course times. The reviews that I've seen, plus in talking to the owners, the 11-14 Mustangs are slightly faster than the '15-16's. One of my good friend's step-dad has a '14 ZL1, it's a bad ass car, no doubt. He's let me drive it and I've let him drive mine. Without a doubt they are both awesome cars to own. We've even raced each other a few times and from 0-60 we are dead even, from there he starts pulling on me. By the time I hit 100, his back bumper has about a foot on my front bumper. And this isn't due to any lack of his ability to drive, they really are just that close. It doesn't hurt that his car is just over 4000lbs and mine is barely over 3600 (ship weight was 3590). I've also got 3" duals (X-pipe) and single chamber mufflers, and his is bone stock. Both are manuals. He so impressed with and likes mine so much that he's just waiting for '17 ZL1 factory orders to open up to place his order. I do totally dig the 14-15 1LE's and ZL1's, just don't care for the interior. I'm just a firefighter/paramedic so I don't have money for the higher end 2SS or ZL1. My plans are to take my almost bare bones 1SS, put 4.10's in the rear, do some suspension work, intake, TB, CAI, headers and a tune, ZL1 machined faced wheels with Nitto 555 G2's 315/35r20, 275/35r20. I figure it will get me 475rwhp and mid-low 11's in the 1/4m. Everything is to each his own, we all bought the cars we did because we liked them

I don't think you can make a bad decision here. I've owned a few 5th gens, two of which were ZL1's. They are awesome cars. If you live in a warm climate, no winters, and you plan on tracking the car go with the ZL1. If you plan on daily driving and you have winters go with the 6th gen SS. The 6th gen SS feels as fast as my ZL1's.

Another funny thing to mention are the track numbers produced... ZL1 while it has 130 more hp, is running the same or hell, even slower numbers on a strip vs 6th gen SS BONE STOCK. That my friend is called technology advancement which only comes in new vehicles btw. |

I had same debate, looked at several ZL1's and almost pulled the trigger but eventually decided to go with a 16 2SS because of the improved interior and tech stuff, while still being able to have the mag ride..

Appreciate everyone's input. I plan on making my decision sometime in January, but I guess I cant go wrong with a supercharged Gen 6 2ss like Atomic Ed mentioned to fill that void if needed.

Couple of points. First the LSA reliability has been fantastic, so Im not sure what the above poster is talking about. I have a network of friends with ZL1's and those that have broken have either been poorly tuned, or underfueled for the Mods.
My builder is at 1300 rwhp no issues. Most of my friends are at 700+, no issues and some cars are daily driven. One that I know of need some auto work after 700+ passes down the quarter. It needed new clutches. He was at the 700+ level. Another has 1500 rwhp and needed a better clutch for the M6. The other poster LSA reliability claim is BS. A 700 rwhp build can get around 19-20 on the hwy if you stay out of it. I average 18 combined. The car is heavy because it is overbuilt and strong as hell, as mentioned there are 1000+ builds holding together on stock drivetrain without issues. As far as the 1/4 times in stock form the ZL1 is traction limited with high 11's with a good driver. Swap out the tires and it improves quite a bit. With stock tires it waggs the rear until mid 3rd gear, so your either pedaling the gas or TC is chopping power to keep it straight. The best stock run is 11.5 Mild mods with tires 10.05 Fairly moded 9.796 These are motor only... no spray. It also excells at road trips and is often one of the fastest cars out on the road course. Either way it would be hard to go wrong. Just providing some more info for you. |

What are these LSA issues. Would like to see the proof. I know a lot of owners with no issues. Less than 10 that I know of have had any problems and those were bad tunes or underfueled for the mods. Only common issue is the spring isolator on the SC which is under warranty for 120000 miles. |

save all you can on deployment. don't buy and waist money on stupid crap and gym stacks and supplements. I say this bc I have had 4 deployments. just concentrate on saving as much as possible and credit score. then when you get back you can drop like 15-20k down on a loaded 2ss and only carry a 25-30k loan!
