IMO drop the 6 and have a turbo 4 as the base model. It will get similar or better MPG and it will benefit the car a lot with the torque increase.

There's a market for V6s and the new 4's perform just as well as they do (if not better?).
No, they haven't been made and obviously you guys aren't thinking about it. If the T4 comes out next gen, then it's likely to go V6, T4, V8 price-wise, like Ford has talked about. The V6 and T4 basically overlap, with the T4 being more expensive.

No...the V6 is still slated to be behind the V8. It will use the similar setup of the 420hp twin turbo 3.6 the caddy setup will have. But I expect either Camaro will slightly up the HP above Caddy or either the car will weigh in less than the caddy. Actually I think there was a recent article quoting Oppenhiemer that the Camaro Will Have No 4cyl.

That won't happen.

"Camaro Chief Al Oppenheiser: Next-Gen Camaro Will Not Offer A Four-Cylinder

In a bid to offer a more refined, efficient, and nimble car that will be competitive not only in North America, but in Europe as well as in other parts of the world, Ford has said it will offer a turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the next-generation 2015 Mustang. This has led to speculation that General Motors will follow suit and offer a four-banger in the next-gen 2015 (or 2016) Camaro.

According to AutoGuide, a four cylinder engine option will not find its way under the hood of the next Camaro, at least not if Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser has anything to do with it.

“We’re not following Ford”, Oppenheiser told AG during the 2013 SEMA show. “As long as they’ll pay me to be the chief engineer, I’m going to fight for every horsepower I can and every cylinder I can,” he said. Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for cars will jump from an average of 27.5 MPG, where it has been since 1990, to 37.8 MPG by 2016. This mandated increase is forcing automakers to downsize engines, some of which have been removing two cylinders while adding forced induction such as turbo-charging. As such, some V8s are being replaced with turbo-charged six-cylinders, and naturally-aspirated six-cylinders have been eschewed in favor of boosted fours.

For its part, General Motors is no longer offering a six-cylinder engine in the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu or Buick Regal, opting to solely offer powerful turbo-charged four-bangers. But The General has also been able to avoid downsizing its engines in its all-new full-size pickup trucks such as the 2014 Silverado and 2014 Sierra. Instead of downsizing, GM elected to engineer an all-new eight-cylinder engine line called EcoTec3 with a host of modern technologies such as direct injection, variable valve timing, and active fuel management, also known as cylinder deactivation. By contrast, cross-town rival Ford has fully embraced the downsizing trend, and is experiencing a great degree of success with its EcoBoost four- and six-cylinder powerplants.

Oppenheiser addressed the possible future demise of V8 engines, saying that, “In the future, something I don’t think the public realizes yet, there may be a day when nobody, Ford, Chrysler or GM has a V8, or if they do it would be a very highly-priced V8 because you’ve got to add your whole stable of cars and come up with a fuel economy number”.

What Al wants and what GM corporate tells him to do are two very different things.

Just sayin'.

It can't all be doom and gloom....There's the new GenV V-8s just coming out, a new S/C LT-4, etc....If those engines would be unviable after new 2016 CAFE requirements, I doubt they would have built a new generation of V-8s for just one or two more years....

Perhaps Al may have his wish....If the Camaro doesn't have to go I-4 "yet", no reason to offer it sooner than necessary....and at least he's not buying into the idea that Camaros need to do whatever Mustang does engine-wise.....

Actually, yes. The next generation Holden Commodore, which both our car is based off and the Chevy SS is badge engineered from will be as GM has planned a front wheel drive turd based on probably the current epsilon platform. It will have the current flavors of fours and if lucky a six. This is a car with quite a history and they are taking an absolute crap on it. I can garuntee that no one in Australia wants this car, and just as many in the US. But as stated previously GM will do what they are forced to do and want to do despite what a portion of the market wants them to do. Heck ford is killing the Falcon, THE FALCON in the same market. Do you think that they want to?

We are going to see a 4 cyl camaro at some point, and we will also see other cars lose their V8s and V6s. It's just a matter of time, and the only way to change it is to vote for politicians that don't support these regulations.

Just mostly working now and racing in the spring and summer. I've got a racing team going with 305 sprints. This coming season will be my first full season as a driver in the buckeye super sprints series. Our cars dont make as much power as the big 410 but we still fly and its a blast!

Honestly, Ford probably does. Falcon sales have been in the dump for a while now. Commodore's reigned supreme as the RWD king in Australia for years.

All we can do is hope the weird rumor regarding an NA-built 2nd gen Chevrolet SS being exported to Australia as a Commodore is more than just complete BS.

Well I mean as far as killing off a model that has some history behind it. Chevrolet did the same with the Camaro in 2002 because it made sense financially as well.
