How are you guys documenting your oil changes that you do yourself for warranty issues? I would rather do oil change myself but I'm concerned if I have a warranty issue the dealer is going to be a bunch of d bags.

record your mileage. basically they take your milage and divide it by 7500 miles. if you have receipts for that many oil changes your good.
Im lucky to know my dealers service manager. when i take it in he will have me drive it on and off the drive up lift and even let me install my skip shift eliminator. Im doing it thursday what ever milage I have on it and then at 1500 miles then ill be doing my own $120 oil change.

Don't trust dealers

it's sad that we don't trust GM dealerships to properly handle an oil change. I hope they know the proper list points. Good reason to get ZL Add-On lifting pads.

I got three 2" hairline scratches, on top of right front fender, right down to the primer during my FREE oil change. I just live with them.

You can document everything you do on the my chevrolet website.

No less valid than a dealership. You can save your receipts if you're really anal.

For all you guys that are scared to have your dealer do your free oil changes, I now know why. I just had my 2016 in for the tranny line recall and oil change and they only put in 6 quarts. Cant trust anyone!!!!!!!!!!

Took my 1LE for the first service and older corvette tech did my oil change, I checked the dipstick and its basically perfect.

No issues here, after my 2nd free oil change I will be doing the changes myself.

Dealer topped off oil. Not really nice about it. Not happy with the dealer. Pellegrino in Westville, NJ

I know there's a lot of distrust around having other people work on your car. I mean, look at the audience here, we're all car guys and would much rather do it ourselves. That said, I had absolutely no issue with taking mine in for the first free oil change and will do so again for the second. After that, I'll do my own, but it's honestly not as bad as it seems. Sure, some people have a bad experience, but you'll hear about those more, even though it's the rarer occurrence.

Just wanted to post this to say not to worry too much. Pick a reputable dealer that you can trust and worry not.

I believe there is more of a problem with the oil changes than things like warranty work. Most dealerships aren't paying a GM qualified technician to do oil changes. I am guessing that many of the oil change folks don't really have any mechanical experience, let alone much training, qualification or certification. Not to say that a certified GM tech can't make a mistake, because they do, but it's much more likely with marginally qualified oil change people.

I will be switching my Camaro to Amsoil, but recently took my car in to take advantage of the first free change. Sure enough, they only put 6 quarts of oil in. The fellow that did the actual oil change said "I thought all Camaro's only took 6 quarts". I totally understand wanting to maximize profits, but many dealerships need to do a lot better job of training the oil change folks. At least provide them a bit of training and maybe a chart showing which oil, and how much goes into each vehicle.

I'm not going to take advantage of the 2nd free oil change. In another 1k miles or so I'll switch it over to Amsoil Signature 5w-30. These cars are so easy and straight forward to do an oil and filter change on. My car will only see the dealer again if there is some type of warranty issue.

Do it yourself!! I do all my oil changes on both my'16 Camaro and 2005 Chevy truck. It's easy to do and you can be assured it will be done right if you do the oil change yourself.

Wow lots of varying ideas here.

I change my own oil, and try to do as much on the vehicle as i can. Why risk taking it to someone else who will only treat as "just another" car. That attitude is rampant these days with not just cars....but everything.

I spent too much money on my car to let someone put 3 hairline scratches on it, or 6 guarts and leave the fill cap off. I have the time and want to do my own. Plus it saves money......and you know what its getting.

Some of you have found good dealers and thats great. I live in a bigger city and no one cares about you as there are 10 more lined up who want the 6 quarts..

Edit....my wife helps me when we do her Wrangler. I would trust her over most guys for an oil change on that Jeep

Did my first oil change yesterday at 1500 miles. 10 quarts (DAMN!). Thought my old Coyote Mustang held alot at 8. Super easy. The longest part is waiting for 10 quarts of oil to drain. And like others have said. Make sure your oil tray is in the right spot. When I took the drain plug off the oil came out with enough force to overshoot the tray. It literally shot out about a foot.

I got 10 quarts of Mobile 1 from Wally World for 44 bucks. Not bad. I keep my receipts and cut off a piece of the box the filter came in to show which filter was used. Then notate in the warranty book. I will also get online and notate. Probably overkill but you can never over document.
