Cylinder 5 misfire, low fuel, fuel pressure regulator code

Hey guys!

I recently have been having a random issue with my 2011 camaro ls. The engine has no mods or alterations. Recently i have been having ‘random’ episodes of a cylinder 5 misfire. The code is always a cylinder 5 misfire. The car vibrates abnormally and it has reduced power. Well i replaced all of the spark plugs and coil packs and thought that fixed it.

Then yesterday it occurred again and also popped up a code for something with the fuel pressure. After more thinking, this has only happened when my fuel gauge is showing almost empty, between a quarter tank and E. After i fill up my tank the misfire stops and everything is back to normal. I am trying to pinpoint what could be wrong in the fuel system. Im going to check the fuel pressure and perhaps the regulator.

Has anyone else ever heard of, or experienced an issue like this? It seems really odd that it could produce a specific cylinder to misfire. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Injector maybe?

You could try moving the #5 injector to another cylinder and seeing if the misfire follows.

Hey there, I had something like this happen to my 2011 SS/RS about 2 years ago. I didn't get the "misfire" or anything like that, but I did get the code for the fuel pressure module malfunction. I thought the same, I'd check the fuel pressure regulator, but found out from my 2 sources, the tune shop that built my engine and the tech that works on my Camaro that these cars don't have a fuel pressure regulator, the pressure is controled by the fuel pump. So in finding that out and the fact that the car had 116k on it, they both said that it looks like the fuel pump is getting ready to take a dump!! The car was running kinda sluggishly, so I opted to swap out the old pump for a ZL1 pump and that made all the difference in the way the car ran. It was almost like it gained 50 more hp. lol. But I know it didn't. It was that the pressure was off that much to affect it. Good luck in your quest sir..

How many miles on the car? Have you ever tried a good fuel system cleaner like Thechron?
