Just dumped my steelies.

So after a lot of research on tires I decided to give a chance to Toyo Proxes 4 Plus. (275/40/20 tires all around)
http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/pr...on-tires?cat=2

I must say the tires are great as mentioned in their description. The price I paid is not bad. 180 / tire incl. shipping.

They are Ultra High performance AS tires.
Right now I have no plans or funds to drop the car since the roads here are not fully smooth. Maybe l should put SS springs...I am not so worried about the fender gap.

P.S. I need to figure out a cheap and reliable solution for caliper coloring.
Here are some pics.

I have only driven about 50 miles, the ride quality and handling has been improved.

Looks good man! I love the blacked out look. As for the calipers the only color I'd paint them is black, otherwise I think they'd stick out too much and lessen the blacked out look. I used engine primer and paint and painted mine over two days doing two each evening so they could sit overnight. Nice choice on the wheels too!

It is raining out here this morning so on the way to my office I had a chance to test the new tires in wet conditions. I am very impressed! The tires didn't loose traction and had a very nice grip on ramps and sharp curves. I was easily doing 75-80 in the rain on the same curves where I would be scared to go above 65 because I can feel the car loosing grip. On a straight launch at about 3k RPM I did feel the tires spin a little bit but nothing crazy.

These are Forgestar F 14s. I have 20x9.5 that weight between 21 to 22 lbs / wheel.

For track/drag cars here's the 18" info.
Approx Sample Weight
18×8.5 +48 17.6 lbs or in metric 7.98kg
18×9.5 +48 19.4 lbs or in metric 8.80kg
18×10 +42 19.2 lbs or in metric 8.70kg
18×12 +68 20.0 lbs or in metric 9.07kg

Here's another thread which shows more about their weight and specs: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96095

So when you say that the ride quality improved, what are you talking about? I want to know since I plan on getting rid of my steelies in a couple of months.

The same street bumps and minor potholes are not sending the same vibration or "bump" back into the cabin. I feel like the car has more grip with the increased width of the wheels & tires increasing the maneuverability. People already running 20" stock or aftermarket wheels may not notice a huge difference in ride quality but the ones running LS Heritage steel wheels will feel the difference.

Since these are lighter than all stock wheels the acceleration and braking is better as well.
I plan on installing some slotted rotors soon.

This is exactly what I was planning on doing, except I was going to go with the Forgestar F14's in 18x8.5 and continuing to run my stock tires. I'm loving the thought of dropping 15 lbs per wheel . . . how noticeable is the difference in acceleration?

The finish on yours is matte black? Where did you order from? The Forgestar warehouse is only 6 hours away so I may try to drive there - think I can fit my old steelies in the trunk/back seat?

Looks good! As far as painting the calibers check out G2, they have a reasonably priced kit that comes in a ton of colors that lets you paint all 4.

Acceleration times have a noticeable difference (not day and night). I can feel it 1st and 2nd gears. Unfortunately, I don't have any numbers or graphs to compare but once you are behind that wheel you will feel the gain for sure.

These are "Textured black" and they do offer Matte black as well.

I ordered from a dealer named Howey Industries (not on this forum) in Chicago, got a good deal.

I wanted to do what you want to do (go 18s) since I'd be saving around 15 lbs a rim which translates to 60 lbs of unsprung weight. For every pound of unsprung weight removed is an equivalent to 10 lbs of sprung weight removed. And for every 100 lbs of sprung weight (I'm assuming) removed, the car goes .1 seconds faster in the quarter mile. 60 lbs from rims alone translates to .6 seconds faster in the quarter mile!

While that may be nice, I do more car shows than drag race so just the fact that F14s and TSW Nurburgrings save weight in their 20" form is a big plus.
