Car has an oil leak... extended warranty won't cover

Took my car in 3 days before the factory warranty expired for a leak. After a week of going back and forth between the dealer and warranty company, it wasn't covered. Dealer says the power train warranty is blocked on the car due to modifications from the previous owner. Extended warranty company says that since I took the car in before the factory warranty WOULD have expired, their extended warranty won't cover the repairs and if I would have taken it in a week later, it would have been good. 2010 m6 Ss with only 32k miles. Dealer suggested the oil pan gasket be replaced... I've looked myself and it seems to be leaking somewhere in the front and on the side by the starter... I'm open to ideas on how to get this squared away... All I did was buy my dream car for my birthday...

Did they disclose at time of sale that the factory warranty was void? If not, insist that they honor it. Also get a list of what mods supposedly voided it. Odds are none of them have anything to do with were the oil is leaking from.

Sounds like you are being given the run around. You could always come back later and get it looked at from where it's really leaking, doesn't sound like the oil pan gasket if oil is higher up.

Do some searching for oil leaks on 2010. I know the oil cooler was a popular problem. Here's a link I found doing a quick google search. I know someone this happened too.

I bought the extended warranty from the bank. Per the owner I know why it was voided but per the bank, dealer and extended warranty co, I don't... I'll do some more looking to see if I can see where the leaks coming from. I might take it to another dealer and just say fix the leak based off my gaskets and seal warranty on my extended warranty company. It looked like it was around the starter some and somewhere on the front.

Mine was in the shop 4 times for oil leaks, starting with 3000 miles on her. First the rear main was replaced. they hinted that when I put my Hurst shifter in I "may have disturbed the seal" Considering the constraint when I ordered it in 2008 for the shifter caused my VIN to be over 9000 and should have been in the first few hundred I told them dont go there! then 3 other times drip drip drip... first was o rings to the oil cooler then both other times was blamed on "silicon seal block to drain pan" now it is 6 years old and 8000 miles on her, dry under it finally!
GOODLUCK!

You should review all the papers you signed at purchase. It was a used car, but with remainder of factory warranty? OR did it say "as is" no warranty (from GM). I never buy extended warranty's so I don't know about their excuse.

What mods were done before?

There are alternatives to fighting them up front. Get the repair done and then issue a Warrant In Debt with the court system. They will likely pay the bill at that point instead of paying a lawyer to show up in court.

Car has an oil leak... extended warranty won't cover

Well the exhaust certainly has no connection to an oil leak. I wonder if they would contend the tune may have caused it. Ask them what specific mod could relate to an oil leak,

The cost of an oil pan gasket, which is $37. Sometimes the pan itself has to be replaced though. When I went through this, my pan had to be replaced as well. At that point, add a few hundred more to the cost of a DIY repair.

The devil is in the details though. You have to drop the entire front rack to get to the oil pan. This repair rings up north of $1,500 at a dealership because of the man hours involved in the repair. Likely it will be in the 2 grand price range with a new pan and gasket.

Ask the dealership if that price includes a new pan. 500 sounds right if you DIY and it includes a pan and gasket.
