First National SCCA Solo results for 2016 Camaro

I ran the SCCA Crows Landing tour last weekend in F-Street against some of the very best. The car is still stock except for wheels/tires. I was 0.018 behind Mark Scroggs after day one. I made some mistakes so I knew the car had the speed to win.

I finally found the speed on Sunday with a killer run, but nicked a cone so I ended up in second place. Here is my flying run, which would have put nearly a half-second on the field: (I was very close to a lot of cones, no idea which one I hit)

The car is getting sway bars made right now, so I'll have a front bar on it for the Pro Solo next weekend. Looking forward to another strong drive.

Fast, my local course is on a chewed up parking lot but I can tell the car is alot faster than I could push it.

Nice run! Never done Auto X myself - I don't think I'll remember where to go.

After the 1st few events, you'll start 'getting it'.

There are only 3-4 different types of things (we call them elements) to look for:

1) Gates. Two cones that you go through like an open gate.
2) Slaloms. You go around them in succession on alternating sides.
3) Pivots. (Or clam shells) A single cone that you turn around, usually are disguised as gates).
4) Walls. You stay to one side of a series of cones (usually a succession of 'gates')

Look at my avatar. There is a cone standing up, and one lying down. The one lying down is called a 'pointer'. It 'points' you in the direction you should be going around the cone.

When you get out on course, at speed, you look for the pointers and the different elements.

Yes, at first, it really does look like a sea of cones. But when you break it down from element to element, you start to see that it's just bits stringed together like standing dominoes, ready to be knocked down.
