Hate to think about it, but it's probable that one of more people were alive in the car after the collision, but before the fire.
Anyone left in the car when the fire started was toast, literally and figuratively. Unless the fire started long after the collision, the jaws were used to remove the corpse(s).

From the crappy pics, the bent areas of the pillars, and the cut areas, aren't rusted. That would point to the jaws being used after the fire was out. If there wasn't a body in it, they would not have cut the top off.
The front driver's side suspension is torn off. Hit a tree or something else that didn't give would be a good guess.
