Interesting discussion and info about the mapping tables and so forth. Good to know.

Based on all of this, to me it sounds like if you run a low octane gas like 87, you have increased risk of a mechanical problem that can be managed if you drive gently. Although traffic density and speed enforcement force me to drive gently most of the time, I want the freedom to get on it at a moment's notice without increasing my risk of damage, so I will continue to run high test. (does anyone say high test anymore?)

Yes Emoto I still say Hi-Test too! Guess it’s because I’m in my early 60s and that’s what we used to call it years ago!

Glad I am not the only one! I'm your age, too. Soon we will speak in terms that none of these young whippersnappers will understand!

I do know this that I won’t use anything but Hi-Test or Premium gas in my ZL1!

Altitude and emissions reasons.

I would use premium. 91 or 93 doesn't really matter. Oh crud I bet I'll be called out on this advice. Seriously, premium is recommended and is what I use.

the old guys are taking over with their old timey sayings!

Whippersnappers are the opposite of old timers.
Real definition:

A whippersnapper is someone who is younger than you are but also irritatingly overconfident and impertinent, like your little smart aleck cousin. The word whippersnapper describes a specific kind of bratty, know-it-all kid, and it's only used by an older person who is talking about a younger person.

to be completely honest, nothing I own runs 87 octane. I don't even put that swill in my lawnmower. even my 07 yaris runs smoother and cleaner on 93.
