I'll just wait until the dust settles after this year....
By the beginning of 2018 the car will go for MSRP or less. Or wait for a used one....for what I'm using it for I could care less if it has some miles on the clock...

How many 2017 ZL1s were made?
Don't forget that 750 will be snapped up by every rich oil kid and Chinese bankers.

Maybe $4500 sounds about right to me.

There's also the custom thinner rear glass just for this model that we don't know what the price delta is on making/storing/transporting, etc. Plus the parts for making a fixed rear seat over the fold-down one. All those one-offs tend to have higher end-result price with less cars to average them out over.

"It's not for everyone", as they keep saying. If they sell those 750 without a fuss, that will be a good thing.
They're only selling a few thousand ZL1s a year as it is. And remember, one of the biggest problems with the Z/28 program (that led to those massive discounts, and unsold cars on lots for over a year) was they built too many in 2015. The market couldn't support that car at that price at the volume they produced. I would suspect that if they just opened ordering for ZL1 1LEs and let the market dictate sales - it would be in the 600-800 range, anyways. The production volume, in my opinion, is non-news. The dedicated ordering cycle - that's something altogether different! Woo - thanks for posting that Becky!!! |

1) Suspension is not a wash - Z/28 DSSV was roughly double the price of mag Ride equipment. And this car uses some very expensive adjustability hardware to go with it. 2) Wheels/Tires are more expensive than the SS 1LE and ZL1 equipment, by how much? Not sure yet. 3) That wing alone will likely cost $2000, it's entirely exposed carbon fiber, with bonded end-plates. 4) They are including the exposed carbon fiber heat extractor, a $600 option. 5) The rear glass is a thinner-thickness, unique part...intended for just 750 units, which drives up the price, and the fixed rear seat hardware will be different to reduced weight. 6) And there are multiple aesthetic stuff such as the mirrors, hood wrap, aero components, dark tail lamps, and red calipers that will cost something extra. In addition, as someone mentioned, GM's going to put a little something extra in there to boost their bottom line. I am prepared to swallow a $9500 bill (budget for the worst, hope for the best), but it would be nice to see something more like $7500-7995. But daaaaaamn will it be worth it. |
