That would be your fine outgoing "Governator" who instituted that to help with the huge debt problem

I moved from there. My mother still lives in LA County. She will be taking delivery of a new BMW 335is in a week. She was telling me that her first year renewal next year is in the $700 range. Good god. With CA being the number 1 state in vehicles per capita, I would think after they get the debt paid off, they should have money left to get all of you a lobster dinner.

Yeah I'm getting burned for over $400 on my renewal too. Remember how Ahhnold got elected because we the people recalled Gray Davis because he was going to double the vehicle registration fees to bail out California from the financial mess he and the clowns up in Sacramento got us into? And how Ahhnold wasn't going to raise the price and that was the campaign promise that got him elected?
Gray Davis must be laughing now... the Governator is doing EXACTLY the same thing that got his predecessor recalled and for the EXACT same reason. No matter how much of our money these parasites take, it's never enough. We should just fire the whole lot of them and save the state a bundle.

Join the military. As a non-resident stationed in California I pay about 200. It's probably becuase they know military can register in their home states for much less than full Cali registration price. Cali figures it's better to get something than nothing.

In montana, the tax is a percentage of the appraised value of your vehicle. (1.5%) I think. That is just the tax portion, there are other fees. The problem here is the appraisal. They have their own system. My caddy booked for 22k. It was appraised at 30. On a new camaro for first year it would cost well in the $600 range. There is no sales tax here, but you make up for it with state income tax. They get you coming or going.
