first try with launch control, not hooking up

I don't know if I'm not doing this right or what. I tried launch control for the first time today. When I floored the gas she steadied out at 3000rpm not the 4K I thought the manual said. When I released the clutch the wheels spun immediately. The tach got up to near 6k with the wheels still spinning like crazy. At that point I let off the throttle and shifted to 2nd. She immediately hooked up in 2nd and I rocketed off through the gears no problem. I went back and my 1st gear burnout was about 5 feet long. I thought I let the clutch out pretty smooth, but maybe not fast enough? Am I doing it wrong? btw, I have a vert and it was in "competitive mode".

No. Verts don't have PTM. They have Competitive driving mode instead (same as an SS as I understand it) but it is still supposed to have launch control according to GM.

I dont have a vert but when I've used launch control the tach hits about 3800-4000 depending on the weather. Takes some practice... but I have always seemed to have some tire spin. Love to hear how more experienced drivers use launch control. The tutorial videos are very informative but practice makes perfect. (I was is using PTM 3 mode while trying launch control). I will give PTM 5 a try and hold on.

What was the temp outside? Those tires won't hook up unless its very warm.

The rpm it settles at will be different depending on which mode you are in. Don't sidestep the clutch, pick your foot up off it little faster than normal. If you're doing this on the street in cold weather you're not going to have great results. Out of the dozen or so times that I have tried this on the street, I've only gotten a good launch maybe three or four times. The rest of the time I just smoke the tires and hit the rev limiter. But like someone said, practice makes perfect.

That was the main issue then. From what I hear 40-60 degrees is a no-go for a sweet launch on these tires.

For sure! It was over 70 here yesterday and those tires still would break loose from a rolling 20mph start!

i think they will break loose at any temp. so much torque to the rear wheels is two much for any tire i fear.
