..the Camaro F body went south with the advent of a rear hatch. This production encompases many years. The 5th generation, although not a direct descendant of the F body, is the best yet since the first generation in my opinion.

This is my 7th Fbody even though this one really isn't. It has great looks and decent performance with full bolt ons. That said. My 2nd & 4th gens were more fun to drive and my 02' TA with similar mods kills this bloated pig in any race period.

Did you guys see that West Coast Customs Charger I guess it was. The client wanted essentially a rolling chassis out of a new one and a body from a 69/70 or so. Basically ran like it's brand new, looked old school. I think it was green.

It's funny reading the responses in this thread -- I've been a 4th gen (and FBody in general) fan since I bought my 1994 Camaro in 2002. In my experience, a lot of 4th gen owners usually rag on the 3rd gen owners for having mullet mobiles with no power. With that said, it's funny to me now seeing the 5th gen owners ragging on 4th gens. It always seems like the latest generation rags on the previous generation.

That said - I think each generation has it's positives, but I personally put 3rd generations at the bottom of my list (again, perpetuating the "previous gen" ragging).

1st gens are the epitome of raw style, raw muscle performance, etc.
2nd gens went into european styling and started out with good performance.
3rd gens went boxy with dog performance.
4th gens went sleek ( "cheese wedge" ) with good performance, and 4th gens ended (IMHO) ugly but with GREAT performance.
5th gens have the borrowed looks from the 1969 with the modern technology. But while 5th gens have the horsepower higher than 1st gens, it's not raw... it's "refined" and "disconnected."

IMHO - give me a car without the 26 air bags, without the nannies, without drive-by-wire -- give me more mechanical controls than electronic controls, etc. I was at a road course track a few months ago and we were all doing "parade laps" with a 65 mph speed limit. In the corners I felt like I was pushing my 4th gen decently hard, while my mom behind me in her 5th gen was asking why I was going so slow. She was so disconnected from how much she was pushing her car.

As much as anyone here wants to dog on the 4th gens, there's no denying the 98-2002 FBodies were amazing in performance with the LS1 engine. Not to mention the 98-2002 v6 Camaros and Firebirds were outrunning Mustang GT's of the similar era - the 3800 v6 engine was stout. But the 4th generation is the classic example of why you can't cater primarily to the enthusiasts -- from what I've always heard, 4th gens were catered to enthusiasts and not the "average joe" and hence the sales weren't as good. That's why we have to remember that moving forward GM needs to concentrate on BROAD appeal - as much as we wish they'd listen to only us enthusiasts.

I've had at least one of each generation. I love my 5th gen better than all the other ones. I had the first 4 at the same time. Some pics of them.

I've had the 67, 69, 75, 82, 11 and have had a ball in all of them. I had a guy at gas station tell me " You know the older ones were twice as better as these new ones." Since I was in my 11 I told him yep they had less horsepower stock, would be down a bank somewhere trying to hang with these in the curves and used twice the gas. He walked away mumbling.

Performance? Yup! Looks? Butt ugly. That's why sales sucked.

It was a dawg...slow as slow can be but the body lines still made it a sexy piece. Compared to the 5th gen my 85 Iroc was a dud....understanding technology has evolved!! My 69's define what a muscle car should be. Powerful and yet nimble esp for that era. Compared to the 5th gen I am not so sure if I would trade my 13' for another 69' even up or not. The second gen's I am still baffled a bit. The 70-73 were just plain sexy....my fav yrs by far. After that, everything about the camaro took a turn for the worse for that generation IMO. As much as I love the 70-73 yrs Im still not sure I would trade my Camaro even up. That says a lot about these new camaro's. Ive never owned a 4th gen as they never appealed to me performance or look wise.

What are the chances that GM makes a newer camaro based on the 70-73 model years?

And GM is doing the same thing to the 5th Gen starting with the '14 IMO.

I have a '69 and '10. Two completely different cars. As much as I love my '10, if I had to give one up the '69 is going now where. That's mostly due to the fact that I've had it since I was 15 and my dad and I have put a lot of love, sweat, and tears into over the years. Too much sentiment to let that one go.

I think that the 5Gen is a blend of Chevelle and Camaro cues. When I'm behind the wheel, my brain does not say for example "F-Body". It says "A-Body" (which is okey-dokey to me!). It's only when I'm outside the car that I register "Camaro".

I like the '70s Camaros and Firebirds, but the front end of the '70s Camaros is hideous to me. The Firebirds were better looking in my opinion. I think the retro look is not on tap for future models the way it has been for 5Gen

Why do the looks get compared to anything? I'm not following your logic. It's either ugly or its not, at bare bones. You seem to be saying "but the Mustang of that generation was ugly too". How is that an excuse for the Camaro's looks?
