Too much tire spin?

SO when I am having fun and throw it into 2nd my back wheels will spin to the point where I am practically doing a quarter donut, the car kicks to the side that much and I have to let off the gas to get the traction back so this is kind of good and bad at the same time. The car is a stock 2014 1LE, outdoor temps in the 50's, maybe the tires are just cold even though I have driven many miles to warm them up? while writing this I thought traction control has always been on, could that be it? I'll have to try with it off... So my question is what have you done to overcome this? I love it that the car has this much power but I want it to grip the road better when I launch it.

If the traction control is on, I have trouble seeing how this is happening. My 1 - 2 shift is often down with no lift of the throttle, and if the traction control is on, the car is very easy to keep straight.

Um....the car wasn't designed for a dead hook launch...

Have ever driven a car with any type of power before? Sounds like pretty typical behavior for a RWD vehicle with a manual....

I believe the 1le has a softer tire and if its cold that's your problem

I've made quite a few mile long runs with my 2014 1LE at the Texas Mile event. On occasion I get some pretty significant 2nd gear traction loss too. This has occurred with new stock tires, warm weather, and an old airport runway which is good surface.
This is much worse when the temperature is under 60 degrees or so, and the colder the worser!

I doubt whether taking traction control off will help, in fact it may hurt.

It's counterintuitive, but my worst 2nd gear traction has always occurred AFTER I get too much wheel spin in 1st. I've quit using launch control as it's too aggressive for my tire/road/power combination and I get too much wheel spin in 1st.

Honestly I see the same issue when it's relatively cold out and the tires are cold as well. I can break traction easily in 2nd when it's 40-50F and the tires aren't warmed up fully. First week having my car I fish tailed it pretty good while getting to know the car on a back road - TC was on. Yesterday and today it's been around 65-70F and I got to drive a lot of miles on the highway to warm the tires up. Once they are hot I can't break traction very easily unless I shut off TC and have at it. It's a different animal and you've gotta get used to it. It doesn't take much to end up in a pole or sideswiping another car.

LOL...Thanks for the funny comments http://www.camaro5.com/forums/images...laughabove.gif Thanks Thompstl1, I am thinking that the temps are just too cold right now for the tires. When the car has been sitting overnight and I am doing a nice, legal take off the back tires will want to hop a little but once they warm up it stops. I'm in Ohio and it was 15 degrees this morning but I would think that after several miles of 50+ mph driving they would be warmed up enough... I guess I'll have to learn to drive like grandma and use less gas as some have suggested so I don't crash...but what fun is that http://www.camaro5.com/forums/images/smilies/twitch.gif

Yep exactly! I guess I am just being a little too aggressive going into second and it's cold....

This was interesting http://www.autoblog.com/2014/03/13/c...m-fixed-video/ The tires are spinning on the wheels because of too much traction from the tires...

You said 50 degrees in the first post and then 15* in a post above......That is a huge difference for these tires. Below 60 degrees I have found that they can be dangerous when cold until warmed.

At 15* they are down right deadly if you are horsing around.

The article you posted was in regards to the Z/28, not the 1LE.
