Tinging noise in 6th

Maybe I've just missed it (I'm worn out from a 2 week road trip).. but.. I've noticed that in 6th gear around 1800-2200 RPM, if you give the car a little bit of throttle.. I start hearing what sounds like little hail stones hitting a tin roof, pennies in a jar, etc.. I never have to apply much throttle to get the car to do this and even my 02 Trans Am (stock tune) did similar... What exactly is the sound I'm hearing? I don't get it in 6th when in higher RPM. 5th will do it too, a little bit, when at a similar RPM.

Just wondering what it is that I'm hearing.

Might be the supercharger. I remember one of my old cars (not a Camaro) that was supercharged and making a similar noise when giving it gas and not downshifting a gear to up the RPM. Although I might be completely off on this but I know what you are describing.

That is a good sign of detonation. Might be bad gas or get your tuner to check things out. Better safe than sorry.

Happens regardless of which tank of gas is in the car from any source. Two tunes have looked at it and claim it's fine. Dyno results show the AFR is flat and good as well.

Did your tuner ever log while you were driving and reproducing the noise? If so and all is good maybe get someome to ride along to help pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

Not yet.. I've had multiple people listen for what I'm hearing.. I even had the installer tell me that manual cars will hear this noise in 5/6th with part throttle at low RPMs and just to not try to apply too much throttle in those gears.. It's been this way for over a year and I beat on the car regularly and I do pass people on the highways and will accelerate a little while in 6th.. Just wondering if someone could actually tell me what the noise is (as it's not the only manual car I've had that does this)

Maybe it is the nature of the exhaust. If it has been doing it for that long it has to be something other than the tune. Hope you find it.
