I find so interesting how in 2013, he says this:
“We’re not following Ford”, Oppenheiser told AG during the 2013 SEMA show. “As long as they’ll pay me to be the chief engineer, I’m going to fight for every horsepower I can and every cylinder I can,” he said. People twisted what he said into drawing their own conclusions. And what he said is true, GM didn't follow Ford. The 2.0T is the base engine, the V6 wasn't neutered to make room for a premium 4-cylinder.

A few years ago I thought t4 would be a bad idea, now, I'm convinced otherwise.

They can put whatever they want in the damn thing. If it helps it get more sales and stay on the market I'm all for it. Now the day they don't offer a v8 is when we will have something to cry about.

Yes all the options need to sell and sell as a quality build. The Canadian plant set a very high bar..

Number 3 and number 5 have nearly identical VINs and number 3 is clearly a 6th gen SS. Why would the Corvette Stingray and Camaro SS have nearly identical VINs?

However I do think that what Ford has done was a mistake to make the V-6 the standard engine and the turbo I-4 the prem. Though Ford seems to be trying to push their ecoboost branding along their entire product lines. I feel that the ecoboost should have been the base engine and Ford should have maybe upgraded their 3.7L V-6 as the optional engine. The fact that the 2.3 ecoboost will be priced similar to the 3.6L V-6 Camaro with 335BHP in which you will get 335BHP on regular in the Camaro and only 275BHP on regular in the Mustang. When the full specs for the Camaro is released we will be able to get a more complete picture. I guess this could go two ways, one with auto makers trending to turbocharged engines people might look at the ecoboost and say it is more modern because it is a turbocharged engine. The other way is people might prefer the audio track of the V-6 Camaro over the ecoboost engine along with more power. Not to mention that some people like to rev their engines out and for that they will probably enjoy the 3.6L Camaro over the ecoboost. However for those who love to have lots of mid range torque the ecoboost will be superior. The 8 speed auto 3.6L is probably going to out perform the ecoboost even if the Camaro is a bit heavier then the Mustang (lowest level ecoboost vs fully loaded 2LT V-6 Camaro). It really is going to be interesting to see how things turn out, BTW there is nothing special about all of these turbo engines going into cars. Remember the 80s and early 90s when you had tons of turbocharged cars offered by many different automakers. |
