When I bought my car in May 2012, the dealer had me sign a statement stating I would NOT remove the OnStar computer chip and resell it.

It was interesting, as the form seemed to be homemade, not an official document, almost looked "mimeographed" for those who remember that.

Never have read where the OnStar chip is, and if it has aftermarket value or why the dealer had the form for me to sign... I did sign it but how the heck they would know later is beyond me, other than OnStar is out there everywhere, except when you really need them, then, not so much.

Anyone else have this happen?

I have probably bought 10 cars with Onstar and have never had anything said about that.

You bought it , it's yours , so I think that once is yours one can even give it away , assuming that one could find someone to give it to !!!

Ha, when I was sitting across the desk signing the papers, I thought the same thing, just give the darn thing away, or let it swim with the fishes!

Did you buy from a buy here, pay here dealership or a Chevy dealership? Sometimes the buy here, pay here places have a tracking device on your car. It quite possible that OnStar is a way they track the car if need be.

It's programmed with your vin anyway so it's not like it can be used in another vehicle.

No, but did have to sign a paper stating I wouldn't export the car. Was told it was due to Onstar, because the cars that are exported do not have Onstar installed in them.

Very strange. I didn't have to sign anything like that, and I've never heard of it.

I thought those were extinct since the advent of the cheap copy machines. That dealer must be Way behind the times. Do they still sell new Model T's too?
