Right now, that is not right at all. The price of gas in the Midwest has very little to do with the price of oil. In fact, due to the glut of Canadian and ND oil spilling into the Midwest, refineries in the Midwest region are enjoying the cheapest oil prices of anywhere in the western world...about $50 a barrel less than 5 years ago when gas was $4 a gallon, and at least $20 a barrel cheaper than the price paid in much of the rest of the US and Europe.

Furthermore, with the long list of localized, boutique blends mandated by the EPA and some state agencies, gasoline is very much a highly localized, not global market. Simply drive across the Mississippi or Ohio rivers out of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio right now, and you'll find gas anywhere from 50 cents to as much as $1 a gallon cheaper in some cases just on the other side of the bridge.

Diesel prices are much less regional than gasoline, and are about the same here as where you our. But our gas is about a buck a gallon higher than yours. Diesel is cheaper per gallon (making it far cheaper energy content-wise) than gas right now where I live.

That's the price you've agreed to pay for socialism. You guys rolled over and accepted that long ago. Many on this side of the border have not. We suck it up to fight back, not bend over.

The sooner everyone learns to understand that the better off we will be. Until we develop a true alternative means of powering our vehicles we going to have to get used to this new normal. It's never going down again folks.

This is the price of owning a high performance machine. I can't intelligently complain that premium is over $4.00. I don't have to like paying that much but complaining about it is beyond pointless guys. Buy a Cruze deisel if you're unhappy about gas prices.
Dirty canadian oil sands oil is about 20 dollars cheaper. I just think the gas companies have mastered the balance of threshold selling power, not ultra high to stop people from buying gas but high enough for maximum profits. They know what theyre doing and know how to get away with it. Greed, simple.

New diesels actually burn cleaner than gasoline engines - only time I ever smell diesel anymore is when I am fueling and it does not smell like diesel from years ago.

yes, but your only paying so much because of refinery and other issues. your situation is unique, and what is call an outlier in statistical jargon. for 90% of the country diesel is 30% more. thank all the EPA sulfur and particulate regulations for that.

they always have, they just release more particulate matter (soot) than a car does.

You U.S.A boys are lucky.... on my trips down there i remember how much cheaper gas was than here in Canada.

Gotta take my SS down there one day and fill her up. Meanwhile here she's costing me about 80-90$ for a full tank.

I don't even pay attention to the price. I do put 93 so I would say I'm paying about 3.80
