But I thought they all sold within 3 minutes? What happened?

So how do you explain the ZL1 convertible?

From reading between the lines it appears that many who bought them in the 3 minute window had backed out of the deal by the time they started shipping.
It took a long time for the NMs to ship after the sale date. By then the other '11 convertibles became available at normal prices. The other '11 "appearance packages" were MSRP'd at around $6500. With no substantive upgrades over the other '11 appearance packages (other than a paint job - first 12 hand painted), the $75K price was pretty hard to justify. Only 75 were made, not the planned 100. So they are rare. It would be interesting to know how many went to the original buyers and how many ended up on dealer lots. Does any one have figures on this? Compounding the pricing problem for dealers were very low mile re-sells where the cars fetched in the mid-$30K range. The '11 convertibles also didn't have much time in the model year. Then the '12s were out with all of their substantive upgrades further reducing demand. If you would like to see a heavily modified NM, that if it had shipped this way from the factory might have justified the $75K price, search for posts by NMSS #12 on this forum. His car is awesome. With the problems of the '11 convertible tops, the mechanical and other upgrades in the '12 and '13 model years (interior/suspension) and the $6500 appearance packages (dusk, synergy, etc.); I'd expect the remaining new $75K priced NM '11 cars to sit on dealer lots for a long, long time. Would you pay $75K for a 3 year old NM or use the same cash on a '14 Z/28? There is a dealer in Michigan that has something like 5 new NMs listed on their web site and cars.com. If you are close to one take a look. The paint job looks great. Some believe they will be collectible and justify the $75K price over time. We'll see. However history hasn't been kind to the other NM "special" car prices.

If you feel that a 1LE is a better track car than a ZL1 with it's magnetic suspension then I don't know what to tell you. The 1LE is essentially an SS with some of the ZL1 components. It is not a superior car than the ZL1 on or off the track.
