Bolt- ons
Greetings all, I was planning on doing the usual bolt ons with my 2017 1LE: air box, long tube headers, tune. Planned on leaving stock exhaust. After some research it seems simple bolt ons are yielding fairly paltry power gains according to some. Does anyone have actual dyno numbers to support or refute this claim?
While power and throttle response are important I also would like a little more bark from the exhaust.i assume even if power gains are modest, the proposed bolt ons would wake up the exhaust note a bit. True? Any real world numbers/ observations are greatly appreciated. Regards, Peter |

Peter see the mods in my signature. My car put down 440/445 on a mustang dyno and and 470/480 on a autodyn chassis dyno at Westech performance. Your best bang for the buck is e85. But when you improve the air in, you need to improve air out to maximize gains, you already knew that though. Headers would be next along with ported throttle body and manifold. The throttle body will greatly improve the throttle response if you wanted to go that route prior to commuting to a tune. You could always delete the secondary cars first and see if you like the extra volume as well.

Secondary cat delete and/or headers with stock NPP will definitely give you more volume. As slick3 said, e85 seems to be one of the better bang for the buck power mods.

Headers alone may give you the bark you like.
I think the LT1 responds very well to bolt ons. Look in the V-8 bolt on section. Pray, EFI, Jannety and others have seen nice gains for E-85, basic bolt ons, plus a tune. Pray got near 500 HP/TQ. |

I have a cai, and Kooks LTs with Kooks cats. I'm at 433 to the wheels. The stock headers are very well done. Like a baby tri y, so you're not picking up a bunch of power compared to the usual LS stuff. E85 will net you a decent power boost. The npp doesnt like headers in my opinion. When i ran catless it completely overpowered it and it sounded like crap. The cats chilled it out and it sounds great now, although the npp will still squeak a bit on start up.

I'm also curious looking for a path to 600whp but it is my daily driver. I hope to achieve 500+ with bolt ons and some mild internal work.

I know I will sound like a Debbie Downer, but have you thought about just driving the car for a while without any power mods and making sure your warranty is good? It is really great AS IS from Chevy. Mods are fun, just wondered if you had considered it. My only power mod would be just switching it out for a ZL1 or ZL1 1LE!!!!

Vintage,
Yes I will be driving it stock for at least the first 6 months. The car will be incredibly capable stock but... my brother has a 5.0 whipple with 800whp, pops has a 69 with 742 N/A hp, and 455hp won't cut it in my area. Need to beat the rich guys with exotics. *I'm slowly building my 73 to take care of the super cars, so maybe my 1le stays stock... Time will make the decision clear. |

I like your plan to defeat exotics! Nothing makes me happier than when I pass an exotic at COTA running in Advanced. Then they learn the car is bone stock. It seems like I am not making many friends with the expensive crowd, which is the way I like it. Keep hustling the muscle!!!

Forget all the Bolt-ons. All you need is to put this beast in. Voila, you now have an exotics destroyer. OK, I kid just a little. Good luck on your plan though.
