What I learned about the ZL1 at Factory Fest 2016
Listening to Al O., and talking to team members there, this is information that was shared. Some of this info you already know, and its in other threads, but i made a list of his talking points and some quotes. If I go over the videos again, or someone else does and finds something I missed, I'll update this original post...
Quotes: * "This is the car you want at the track, the street..." * "We pushed ourselves (beyond what we did with previous ZL1's)" * "I'm proud to be the first car to introduce GM's new 10 speed auto" * "This isn't an 8-speed with two more gears. Its all new, and software controlled, faster shift times (equivalent to an F1 car if we'd installed an electronic switch), and phenomenal" * "We are the first users (of the 10A) not dictated by our production, but by when its ready" * "This GM 10-speed will be talked about in 50 years" Specifications: 230 pounds lighter 650 hp / 650 ft lbs torque Electronic Limited Slip Differential -selectable track surface -user changeable launch rpm Custom Launch Control & Line-lock -"like nothing you've seen" -done in TRACK mode, in gear, parking brake off -use controls on steering wheel -once active, 15 seconds of front brakes only -'SELECT' and 'CRUISE CANCEL' allow for roll out Performance Data Recorder Rev Matching on Manual Trans Auto 10-speed is software controlled but "not a busy transmission" RED SEAT BELTS on exterior color cars: Red, Black, Silver, Grey, and White only Performance: 11.4 Quarter Mile at 127 mph 3.5 Seconds 0-60 (Above numbers produced with the 10-speed) Random: *30 ZL1's have been built (as of 18 Aug 2016) and those coming off the line now have pre-production VINs (CTF phase?) (Note: a little birdy told me that they are in the last phase before production and that phase is almost over. We could see ordering open up very soon. This was a current employee of GM and a very credible source) *Nürburgring times are not available for publication with video to back up the information. The release of video from "The Ring" is cost controlled by the track itself (its owners), and they want payment for it. (The ring had filed for bankruptcy and to prove to the German government that it could make money, etc., etc... So long story short "GM is working the issue") - note: my guess is numbers get released in the days leading up to ordering being opened... *They'll build as many as the public wants. No limits other than order constraints (ie: 10-speed auto) *ARCTIC ICE is called 'Blue Persuasion' in GM circles, they are synonymous, so if you hear Blue Persuasion...its Arctic Ice. (Production colors and Marketing colors are usually different. Midnight Silver is a.k.a. Nightshade Grey) Note: I saw SEVERAL (6 or 7) on the line being built, some in front of or behind a Silver. Theres not enough of a difference. IMHO they missed the boat on this and should have went slightly more blue tint, because when you're looking at them right next to each other on the assembly line and can barely tell the difference, then whats the point. That darker blue they got rid of should still be in production (Blue Velvet???) *Front seats are 'vented' not 'cooled' *Coupe will cost base $62,135 IMPORTANT: GAS GUZZLER TAX IS EXPECTED (out of the mouth of AL O.) Al O. starting up the ZL1 More videos: Part 1: https://youtu.be/bVr9mTzzF1M Part 2: (ZL1 specific stuff! Must watch!) https://youtu.be/3bzNPPzQfE4 Part 3: (question and answer) https://youtu.be/pZCsWd7U_Co UPDATE: Part 4: Z/28? https://youtu.be/t4oQKUEVBiA

I'm disappointed that no one asked about future plans for adaptive cruise, or wireless android auto/Apple play

Also to compare the A10 which has a torque converter to an F1 car's gear box is beyond laughable. I'm sure the A10 will be better than the A8 but I'm pretty sure we all agree the A8 didn't come close to the PDK like Al said it would so I wouldn't buy everything he says about the A10 either.

The Arctic Ice they had was an auto. According to the plant tour and Al, the one on display was a ten speed.

They should just stick with trying to beat the PDK.

Al O. did say faster than the PDK with the paddles and said it would feel like a F1 car if it was just an electronic switch. I think it is safe to say that it will not have much lag between the click and the shift.

He did not directly say it shifts faster than a F1

Ironically I don't think the shift speed on the A8 is bad or needs improvement, but the paddle response is terrible (compared against PDK, BMW DCT, etc.)
