Stingray over a ZL1?

Stingrays' are popping up at dealerships this weekend and I read and hear that some new Vette customers are giving up their ZL1s to get them. So I write this thread to ask just how great is this new Vette?

It looks amazing and has tons of technology packed in, but to me the performance numbers do not seem much better if any than the grand sport it replaces. Zero to 60 times and quarter mile are nearly identical. I do know it will supposedly out handle the previous Vette, but what makes this car worth giving up a ZL1 for? I would just like to know your thoughts fellas, not bashing the Vette. So anyone having thoughts of swapping their Z for a V, let me know why.

I think it's a gorgeous machine and I may own it or a similar American machine in the next few months in addition to my ZL1. Don't think I could part with it for any similarly priced sports car right now. It's that amazing to me.

It's really different, myself, I'm more traditional vette. I own a C5, never thought much of C6. The C7 is a little to radical for me. plan on keeping my ZL1 !
Horsepower difference alone is a great reason for me

To me? They look like a great vehicle!
But I would wait for a higher level vet to come out

I originally intended to buy a 2014 Stingray. I decided on the ZL1 because it has back seats for my children.

There was a C7 at the local car show this weekend. Let's just say I wasn't impressed. It might have been a cheapy C7 because the tires and wheels were smaller than my Z's. That alone made the car look wimpy-wimpy to me.

My thoughts exactly! This Vette is really nice but to me the 505 HP 7.0 should be the base engine in the Stingray. I wonder how it stacks up to the ZL1 on the track

I'm in the same boat. I still have a little one that can't ride in the front seat.
I wouldn't give up my ZL-1 though I'd park the Stingray next to it!

....there's a crossover market, and there are the dyed in the wool people. I really dig the look of the C7, I think it is phenominal. They did a great job on it asthetically. Plus the performance is par excellence. It's really hot looking. But, I have a been a Camaro guy my entire life and that's where my allegiance lies.

First of all, the chassis is phenomenal. As bumblebee pointed out in his post, the stingray has narrower tires than the stock ZL1 yet it makes 1.08 G on the skidpad. It basically can spank any stock car at twice it's price or less around a tight race track, GT-R included. ZL-1 is not bad but it just is not in the same league if you really want to get stupid in the corners. Stingray only is rated at 460 hp but I'm pretty sure after the tuners start working these things over and someone puts some real tires on them they are going to be untouchable. If you like you car stock, wait for more vette options. If you don't mind upgrading your engine outside the warranty, this new platform is worthy of considerations. I can't imagine what that thing would do on a set of hoosier r-6 race tires with a TVS 2300 blower on top of it!
