Sadness
Well my old F-350 7.3 powerstroke is still running like a champ but I'm not going to get another winter out of the body. Also oil pan needs changing which requires the motor to be pulled and that's going to snowball into a fortune. With the body as rotten as it is it's just not worth it. Looks like my 2ss dreams have been dashed for now since I don't want 2 car payments and a bike payment. I hate winter. Only chance now is getting enough for the motor and tranny to buy a winter beater.

That sucks man. Only good news is that the 7.3 engine is still so desired, so you should be aboe to get something out of it. I lived up in Utah for 2yrs and idk how you guys up north do it. I didnt mind the temps or snow, it was the damn salt and chemicals! I literally saw 2yr old pickups starting to rust. Thats crazy...

What are you thinking of replacing it with?

I don't know yet. I need a pickup thats reliable but nothing fancy. I don't want to buy something too old cause then I'm right back where I started. The only positive thing is that truck owes me nothing. 389,000 miles and worked like a horse it's whole life.

Sorry to hear that bud... I'm praying nothing major breaks from now until next June, or else I'll be in the same boat!

I've done time in Ohio, there's a point where rust takes over. It's best to get something solid to drive when the weather gets bad. It's better to wait for the reviews, and let the new model hype die down. Good luck!

Can't beat Powerstroke Diesels for work and durability.
How about buying a used one? There's a lot of Powerstroke F-250s on Ebay with under 150,000 miles for less than $20k. That would save you a boatload over buying new, and as you know 150k or less on those engines is nothing. |

This is why I am glad I don't live in a state with significant amounts of snow where salt is used. Every single car, if it is driven year-round, will decay into rust within 10 years. You end up having to chose which car you want to sacrifice — usually it's a second-hand car that already has rust damage but is drivable.

There are two piece oil pan kits you can get. They cost about $500.

Well I don't need a full size truck or a diesel anymore. The truck was a leftover from when I had a farm. Anyway I finally got a settlement from when I got hit on my bike last year so between that and what I should be able to get for the truck since the engine and tranny are still running great I might be able to pick up a 4wd truck and swing the Gen6 in the spring. Not much good weather left here this year anyway and I'm gonna try and keep it out of the salt.

So I'm riding by a Chevy dealership and what catches my eye? A white 2015 SS 1LE. My lease is almost up on my 2LT and the Gen 6 just isn't in the cards so ...... I got it. Screaming deal too. I leased it for 2 years for only $100 more than I was paying for the 2LT. Took it for a test drive. Holy s**t what a monster. I was giggling like an idiot and my wife got motion sickness lol. So I'm not at all upset anymore about not being able to get the Gen 6. Maybe in a couple years I'll look at a gen 6 1LE.
